loyalroyaldaz So if we assume all this is fact then we have to sell a good two or three top earners at least.
Who do you think that should be ? Do we go straight for the best players or maybe a few more of the lesser lights?
The obvious ones would be Pog, Drenthe, Guthrie and possibly Macarthey and i think we could probably cope with that.
If that lot go and we start getting into the McCleary's, Gunters, Alfie, Williams then we are fcuked i reckon....
Maybe we should just sell the lot and promote the U21's and U18's who seem to be doing so well at the moment.
The rather worrying snag with the fire sale of the high earners scenario is getting another club to take them off our hands.
TBH, I think that (relatively) young players like Gunts and GMac will attract bidders, however.....
Bridge - on big wages, getting on a bit, made of glass.
Guthrie - on big wages, but was not a "stand out" midfield maestro in the prem. Has dropped down to Champ level, but still hasn't shone.
Pogrebnyak - As Guthrie, but as a forward. Out scored two seasons running by a signing from Rotherham who gets less pitch time.
Drenthe - An enigma that struggles with fitness levels. A gamble for any club.
McCarthy - A good young keeper whose future looked very bright, but the weakness in his game has been brutally exposed by the playing style imposed by the manager.
Prem sides who like to play it out from the back will not be able to find a barge pole long enough.
We could well finish up with a Birmingham/Zigic scenario, being forced to sell our Obita's and MacAnuffs just to raise the money to fund the bloated contracts of some of the over rated turkeys mentioned above.
When Portsmouth very nearly went out of existence, the local paper down there named and shamed the footballers who had been offloaded, but despite continuing to earn tidy money at other clubs, had demanded that they be paid up in full. Kitson was amongst them. They viewed their wages more important than the survival of a City's famous old football club. F8ck the fans.
