^^^^^^ I'd argue that it's how he's been utilised, and who he's been playing with that is the difference.
When he was paired with a fully fit, big, strong, mobile partner like Jason Roberts, (season before last in this division) he looked a different player.

Wasn't Roberts paired with Hunt to such good effect?

Unbelievable Jeff
Ian Royal English striker with a good Premier League scoring record, particularly off the bench and top scorer at his current club this season?

Hammond ought to be able to get much more than £2.5m for him, given his record with player sales.

£5m Kitson
£5m+ Long

£1.2m Blackman (incoming)

Yeah, lolz at me.

Royal Ginger I also think he's suffered a little bit from "big" (for champ level) name syndrome, other teams have been on him like a rash whether he needs it or not.

Big name????

Spent his career in Div 4 until he joined us where his record league goals in a season stands at a mighty 13!

Royston Drenthe? big name in the Championship. Adam Le Fondre? lol, just lol

That stint in the Prem gave him a bit of media time. Ask non Reading fans to name a Reading player and most will default to Le Fondre. So by the levels of our meager existence, yes he is a big name, because people have at least heard of him.

Disagree to the max. I would say Bridge & Drenthe would be names others would know. Possibly McCarthy with his England call up. I would imagine many football fans would offer you a :| if you asked them which team Adam Le Fondre played for.

We'll just have to disagree then. My experiences are that people have no clue that Bridge plays for us, and no-one's ever heard of Royston Drenthe.

In a team of nobodys, being in the top 10 scorers for a decent chunk of last season and "Alfie time", for me makes him more high profile.

Nope, I'm not. "Alfie time" was coyned by Jeff Stelling and referred to over several weeks in the media when he was scoring late equalisers/winners.

With Drenthe, 46 appearances over 4 years for Madrid and half a season at Everton don't make him a superstar. I agree he's still one of our bigger names, but I maintain that more people would have heard of Le Fondre.

ISTR that was "Reading Time".

EDIT:

I'd agree though that randoms would be more likely to associate Le Fondre with Reading than either Drenthe or Bridge.

How did Le Fondre become famous for 'Alfie time', 'that was in the media for several weeks', when someone else says you are wrong and the actual phrase made no mention of Le Fondre at all?

Clearly I made a mistake about that part. Does it make you feel big and clever being such a c*nt about it? Was trying to have a friendly debate here.

Moreover that clip was about a goal by Kebe!

"Alfie time" was also out there, but primarily on HNA not the mainstream media.

I've met away fans who said Le Fondre was our one to watch and one of the best players in the division.

Agreed. I've met fans who have said the same. Le Fondre is our most well known player, mainly because of that stint in the Prem, but also because fans in lower leagues remember who he is from when he was scoring against them and had worked his way up to the PL, a bit like Rickie Lambert. His name is quite memorable too, lol.

A lot of fans wouldn't even know where Drenthe and Bridge have washed up.
