Wycombe Royal
Royal Lady Roberts was on Twitter on Saturday going on about some other game that he was commenting on or whatever for Radio 5 Live - I asked him why he wasn't supporting his team mates at Reading.

If we're paying him til the end of the season, he should jolly well turn up to OUR games and not earn all this extra money in the meantime, imho.

I would assume any payment from us is reduced by the amount he gets paid for his other commitments that are being done at the same time as he would normally be "working" for RFC (match times, training times, etc). Otherwise he is effectively being paid for doing two jobs at the same time.

Well yes, that's my point!

The club will have paid off their contractual obligations to him, the contract will also have been terminated as a result.

Therefore he is a free agent and can do what he wants. The club will be re-reimbursed via their insurances against injured players.

This is such a non-issue. Worse is the overpaid, uninjured underperformers!

And you posted this on the wrong thread.

JIM Hasnt ROBERTS gone ???

No. The news of his retirement was at the end of his contract which is the end of the season.

So how does this work UKE - we've paid him off but he's still contracted to us til the end of the season?? I presumed that we were paying him until the end of the season.

Right - so we're paying him full wage until end of season whilst he is also commentating etc for 5Live - so my point stands - shouldn't he be supporting his team mates in their last few games, etc. No wonder he didn't reply to my tweet.

Might want to get your facts straight before stating stuff that is totally incorrect. He is retiring at the end of the season when his contract expires as was stated in the announcement by the club.

I know for a fact that Karacan's been doing some roofing on the side whilst "injured", Bridge has been working on the Reading Station development and Leigertwood tried to flog me household insurance just the other day.

Well I'm sorry if no-one agrees with me, but we're paying this guy shed loads of money to basically go and earn MORE money by appearing on MOTD or 5Live or whatever. He's being doing it all season and players should be forced to honour their contracts with the club, even while injured, by supporting their team mates during games for a start.

couldn't care less what Roberts does to be honest.

does the point of additional income mean players like Joe Hart who do adverts are also tarnished under the same brush.

i'd be pretty sure RFC don't really care what Roberts gets up to now either.

Surely that would have to be monitored by webcam or something. Say after we lose at home Roberts joins in with the booing, would that make his contract null and void?

The difference is that Hart does that in his own time. It isn't as if he has phoned in to say "Sorry Gov, can't play today I've got to do a video shoot for the new Head & Shoulders ad".

If Roberts is doing it in his own time then fine, but if he is doing when he would otherwise be playing or training then that income should be deducted from what we would pay him.

Is your mission to drive everyone to hate Roberts by making us sick to death of hearing his f/cking name?

What seriously is the likelihood of Roberts playing for Reading again? Nil. Therefore, I don't give a flying one what he does on a match day or any other day for that matter. I doubt very much that the Club would not have given him permission to continue with media work. This is a non story raised once again by an incredibly bitter person.

Didn't he already have a contract the the BBC before he joined us? So just what is the problem here? Players get can sponsorship work left right and centre so who cares if he's still doing his media bit now that his career is over - whether or not he's still technically contracted to Reading (and I bet the only reason he is is that we can't afford the lump sum to pay up his contract).

Bit odd that the involvement of Gianni Paladini in the takeover was revealed earlier today but people would rather squabble about Jason Roberts.
