Since cross posting seems to be all the rage I'll put the cat among the pidgeons on here as well

The Lord God Murty would whore himself out to any Media outlet desperate to take him in order to prep a media career whilst being "injured" for us but I don't recall anyone complaining then.

Truth is nobody actually knows what agreement Roberts has with the club with regards to media/match day committments but he was certainly fairly high profile media wise before we signed him so it seems a bit odd to hammer him for it now. Don't blame the player, blame the club for giving a lucrative 2 year deal to a player of his advancing years whose physical style was always likely to catch up with him.

Just another supposed "fan pleasing" deal struck by Anton that has lead to the need for another buyout

Not sure Murty's the same though - he just did it whilst injured, not retired. He went on to play for another club after us.

Agreed, and it's the one signing that TSI made that made any real difference. It all went tits up the day we got promoted.

Hmmmmm... some people are condemning Roberts and supporting Murty for doing essentially the same thing. Now here's a quiz - which one of those two is black?

And as far as Roberts taking advantage of something that his contributions to his Union provides, how is that 'freeloading'?

But it's not the same, is it. Not in my eyes anyway. I have no problem with anyone doing any media work whilst injured - raises the profile of the club too. My issue is with Roberts continuing to be paid by us, despite retiring - and even though that isnt until the end of the season, he still wont play again, and is happy to pick up a paycheque.

He is an ex-footballer not a current player.
Most self-employed people have to pay their own way to progress in a career.

Don't you start making this racist,I thought you were better than that.
Murty(Long-serving captain of our club)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Roberts(short term player at our club) so naturally people would support Murty over Roberts even if he is Scottish.

Oh don't be so bloody preposterous. I'd say the same if it were Gorkss, Pog, McCarthy, Feds - his colour has absolutely nothing to do with it, as you all well know, except for Hampshire Royal

You might be right, but three out of those four are Jonny-Foreigners.

Stop teasing HR, she obviously only took a few random names of white players as examples.

Both Roberts and Murty were important factors in us getting promoted to the PL. Short term or not, it's generally accepted that Roberts was an important part of the later promotion. I've no idea how much PFA subs are, but why shouldn't he take advantage of his contributions and take a course provided by the union? And, RL, of course it's not a race issue - all I was doing was trying to put a point forward, and I wasn't calling YOU a racist. Having said that, you are, apparently, a member of the right wing of politics so I'm just using stereotypes. And, while Murty was recovering from his injury, he was earning money from media work. What makes it worse in Murty's case is that the benefit of his expensive recuperation, paid for by RFC, was taken advantage of by another team (Charlton, I think).
Also, Directors of a company are not self-employed, they are officers of that company.

Royal Lady As I put on the Buyout thread, is it just me, or if we are still paying him to the end of the season, shouldn't he still be at least watching and supporting his current team mates in their games, rather than earning loads more dosh commentating on games for 5Live or whatever?

To paraphrase what I put on the Buyout thread

So Fcuking what if we are? Explain how it its our annual budgets that all future planning was based on...

And I suppose you would tell your employers that as you were leaving due to illness they needn't pay you for the notice period...

I wasn't going to bother to contribute to this anymore - but re Murty, didn't he work with Radio Berkshire and commentate on OUR games when he was injured for us? He wasn't all over the place with his own phone in show on 5Live or commentating on other games.

Like I've said, I merely made a remark, I'd say the same about any other of our players doing the same, no matter their race, religion or anything else.

I've said my bit - most of you disagree - I shan't be shedding any tears.

HR,
You're at it again with your old habit of lecturing people.
I do know what a Director is-I have been one myself for the past 16 years.
Roberts (as far as we know) is not a Company Director,he is an ex-footballer ,and is either a retired ex-footballer or self-employed-he may even be an employee of the BBC.
He no longer being a professional footballer is not part of the PFA.
It's really not that difficult.

IMHO Roberts only played a very small part in the fortunes of RFC whereas Murty contributed for much longer so it would be natural for fans to feel the love more for him.

isnt it just generally part of our nice family club kind of image that we dont just dump players as soon as they are injured, and pay for whatever treatment they may need to bring them back to full fitness, or they decide to retire.
