The run-in: Predictions

by St. Brynjar » 05 Apr 2014 17:22

3 points for correct score, 1 for the result. Winner gets pride and/or sexual favours from Queensley.

Bournemouth 0-0 Reading
Reading 0-3 Leicester
Wigan 4-2 Reading
Reading 2-0 Boro
Doncaster 0-1 Reading
Reading 1-1 Burnley

8 Points from 6 games. Any of the chasing pack would need 13 to nab a play-off spot, which I think Brighton will do.

If we get 11 points from those last 6 games I'll personally buy you a pint of your choice at one of the semi final games!

Wigan 2-0 Reading
Reading 1-0 Boro
Doncaster 1-1 Reading
Reading 0-0 Burnley

Only get 5 more points, yet we somehow make it by virtue of the other teams capitulation, holding onto 6th by goal difference alone.

Forgetting the individual games for a moment.
There are 4 teams below us on 58 points and we are on 63. We have GD 8 better than the best of those and we all have 6 games left.
If we assume oner of those teams won 4 of the 6 then they would have 70 points. That would leave us needing 7 points from 6 games. if we can't get that we do not deserve to go up.

Given we're playing one of them next, the situation can change very quickly.

I was looking at a point against Bournemouth, Leicester, Doncaster and Burnley and a win against Boro - 7 points

Time to crack out the magic numbers I reckon - assuming we don't have a goal difference nightmare then 13/18 points would guarantee promotion, and this assuming that one of the teams on 58 win all remaining games. In theory, we should be okay, but equally I can see us sharting up the next three :-/
