Back from the game 20 hours ago but only now had the opportunity to vent my spleen.
In mitigation, losing both central midfielders in the 6 hours prior to kick off is a massive blow and throws anything you've been working on in training out of the window. It's the sort of thing that happens in Sunday league football when your midfield's been on a bender the night before, less so in the championship.
That said, this sort of scenario is where you would expect the management to earn their corn and for the rest of the team to stand up and be counted. Is anyone really surprised that in the face of adversity, this team and it's players completely folded and the game was over as a contest within 20 minutes? Mcdermott's team dug out results with the likes of Mullins, Czwfka (sp?) and Afobe playing, but that side had some character and a collective will to win, this one patently doesn't.
Taylor may as well leave, he's been passed over for Mcanuff, Hector and now Obita. If he can't get a game when every central midfielder we have is unavailable, he never will. I cannot understand playing Obita there, not only is he entirely unsuited, it also weakened the defence in a game where we were likely to be doing a lot of defending. Far better to keep the settled back four and make the enforced changes further forward. I would have started with Mcanuff and Taylor and brought on Leigetwood as and when necessary.
I no longer believe this shower will make the play offs, every time you think they are making progress, they don't just lose a game, they perform so abjectly it's difficult to fathom how the hell they've managed to win a game all season nd it is literally embarrassing to watch.
I really had faith in Adkins but he has been a massive disappointment, though, in fairness, I don't think we know the full story of what he's up against given the ownership shambles. My greater disdain is for the players who, collectively, have more than enough about them to be doing far, far better. Have a look at Burnley's squad and hang your heads in shame that your not within a million miles of them.
It looks like the club is rotting from the top, from Anton, downwards, thankfully it hasn't reached the acadamy yet. If there is no takeover, I fear for what is going to happen in the close season/next season. That said, I won't be shedding many tears for the loss of most of this gutless shower of mercenaries who have totally let the club and the fans down this season.
Another good turnout by the away fans though - lions following donkeys.
