Royal Lady We are only in this position because so many other teams have been ineffectual - we've lost to teams like Barnsley and Sheff Wed - we had a dreadful cup experience, we've been pretty poor all season, but so have other teams. Whatever is causing our problems needs to be sorted, I have no doubt that the takeover and now lack of a new buyer has contributed to this, but no one, particularly last night, had any fight in them whatsoever. But don't try and convince yourself that we are a good team Avon, because we're really not, we've just got lucky a few times against other results and that's why we're still 6th, but other teams are right on our tail now, and there's still 5 games to go.

I'm not necessarily saying that we are a really good team - just not as bad as people are trying to make out.

Your post kind of highlights the problem. When we lose we are "poor", yet when we win we are just "lucky". Given that we have so much negative shit going on, why don't people give Nigel any credit for getting this team into the fight for the playoffs despite having to work against the ownership issue, lack of funds etc.

Been at 8 of the last 12 games and we were shite in all of them.
Even in the games we haven't lost we were rubbish: Yeovil, Derby, Huddersfield and Charlton

Do you mean to tell me that our winning performance against Charlton was anything other than poor?

Royal Lady
Mr.Swainey What was happening after the game when it was kicking off in the park outside the ground?

It sounded like it was a load of Reading fans getting wound up with each other. There was also a group of Bournemouth "hoolies" hiding round a corner ready for a rumble, about 50m from the police station!

Big police presence by the Reading pubs, one or two people kicked out; no surprise that trouble flared after I was overcharged for my drink.

tbh even Watford away was only a decent performance when compared to what had come before it.

I'd add Derby away to that as well, but I am scraping the barrel this season.

Watched the highlights. From what I can tell our midfield (such as it was) was AWOL for the goals. Our defence was an omni-shambles. McCarthy didn't have much chance. Obita had a decent shot saved from a good Drenthe cross. Pearce at least contributed positively by making the goal with an uncharacteristic dribble through midfield resulting in a super shot from HRK.

I'll be glad when this season of disappointment is over and we can start a new one with expectations in line with backing.

One thing I'd add is that there were a lot of people complaining about the team selection in midfield. I'd just like an example of an alternate selection from at least one of them when Williams, Guthrie, Karacan, Akpan and Hector are all injured and Bridge and Leigertwood have only just returned from long term injury.

The natural one was Jake Taylor and Chris Baird.... oh no, we couldn't afford his wages when Madejski said there was money around.
It hurt a bit seeing Baird clear the ball off the line for Burnley on Saturday to ensure that they got a draw.

If we had beaten Barnsley (twice), an eight man Yeovil, Millwall, and a ten man Brighton we would be 11 points better off and in 3rd position. Those games are the games we should have won, and we should be in a better position than we are now. We're still in a good position, and who knows? We could still make the play-offs, but this has been a disappointing year. And people can talk about the lack of investment and the like all they want, but we really didn't need it - we needed more grit in games against teams that were up for the game against us.

Royal Ginger Birmingham home, Doncaster Home, First half Leeds Away

Leeds away yesyesyes don't know how that escaped me, and Donny home and Brum home join Derby and Watford as good but nothing special. Ipswich home too.

So:

Home - 2 good, 3 1/2 decent, 15 1/2 poor
Away - 4 good, 2 decent, 17 poor

No poorer than some of the wins that formed part of our run at the end of the 2011/2012 season........

Does anyone out there still support Nige Ladkins
With every defeat it seems another stalwart nobber jumps ship.
This week MmmMonsterMunch has decided he's had enough.
Is there anybody else left out there?

Just to clarify I am not saying sack him. I want to see what he can do with some of his own players. But it's clear the current crop are not playing for him.

Like the display at Peterborough at the beginning of the season. There's players that need to leave in the summer.

As for Drenthe. Who supposedly once was a full back. Complete waste of space. Provided no cover in the first half for Gunter.

Back from the game 20 hours ago but only now had the opportunity to vent my spleen.

In mitigation, losing both central midfielders in the 6 hours prior to kick off is a massive blow and throws anything you've been working on in training out of the window. It's the sort of thing that happens in Sunday league football when your midfield's been on a bender the night before, less so in the championship.

That said, this sort of scenario is where you would expect the management to earn their corn and for the rest of the team to stand up and be counted. Is anyone really surprised that in the face of adversity, this team and it's players completely folded and the game was over as a contest within 20 minutes? Mcdermott's team dug out results with the likes of Mullins, Czwfka (sp?) and Afobe playing, but that side had some character and a collective will to win, this one patently doesn't.

Taylor may as well leave, he's been passed over for Mcanuff, Hector and now Obita. If he can't get a game when every central midfielder we have is unavailable, he never will. I cannot understand playing Obita there, not only is he entirely unsuited, it also weakened the defence in a game where we were likely to be doing a lot of defending. Far better to keep the settled back four and make the enforced changes further forward. I would have started with Mcanuff and Taylor and brought on Leigetwood as and when necessary.

I no longer believe this shower will make the play offs, every time you think they are making progress, they don't just lose a game, they perform so abjectly it's difficult to fathom how the hell they've managed to win a game all season nd it is literally embarrassing to watch.

I really had faith in Adkins but he has been a massive disappointment, though, in fairness, I don't think we know the full story of what he's up against given the ownership shambles. My greater disdain is for the players who, collectively, have more than enough about them to be doing far, far better. Have a look at Burnley's squad and hang your heads in shame that your not within a million miles of them.

It looks like the club is rotting from the top, from Anton, downwards, thankfully it hasn't reached the acadamy yet. If there is no takeover, I fear for what is going to happen in the close season/next season. That said, I won't be shedding many tears for the loss of most of this gutless shower of mercenaries who have totally let the club and the fans down this season.

Another good turnout by the away fans though - lions following donkeys.

Well it aint that.

Cant argue with the rest of the post, though. Well written.
Except to say that Im not that optimistic that we wont have a mercernary or two or three in the team next year.
I would happily trade Pog, Guthrie and Drenthe for a hard working, late 20s 2million pound plus centre back for Morrison/Hector to play alongside; but I just cant see the club operating like that in the closed season.

I thought we had 6th sewn up but given that only one of 7th, 8th and 9th now need to just get one more win than us, Im not so sure. Perhaps the power of mathematics wont see up to the play offs after all.

Unless Pog, Guthrie and Drenthe are out of contract at end of season, or are willing to take a big pay cut - they won't WANT to move on and there won't be anything we can do about it. I'd keep Guthrie tbf, but whatever wages Pog is on, apparently, I'm an idiot to think he's on £60k a week, and same with Drenthe, I can't see another team anywhere in the world paying the same.

Yeah I was kind of saying that in less direct, more incomprehensible way.
