sandman If Akpan was a 22 year old we'd produced from the academy he'd get nowhere near the stick he gets. However, because he's a 22 year old signed during that transfer window it doesn't look like he's going to catch a break from certain people.

I thought it was because he was crap. Give Jake Taylor 5+ starts and i suspect he'll be getting the same treatment.

Jake Taylor gets the same treatment already. Everyone thinks he's shit. And if you don't think he's shit, you should. Because he is.

I'm getting there. I'm currently at "Not impressed" a couple more games will probably lead me to wishing AIDS on him.

So he's worse than a winger turned full back turned centre midfielder- Obita, and a winger turned centre midfielder -Jobi , who were both crap

Big Foot A special mention to Chris Gunter - Reading had made a decent start to the game with 1 or 2 early chances. He has the ball on the halfway line, not a man around him for 10 yards, no pressure whatsoever. So, with Adkins brand of slick and quick passing football.....what happened next?

A) Gunter kept possession and played a simple ball
B) Gunter went on an enterprising run down the wing to invite Bournemouth onto him
C) Gunter chipped the ball up to ALF, surrounded by 6ft+ defenders who mopped the ball up and then exploited the fact he was out of position with a better ball into the channel for an energetic and hungry striker to chase onto and square for his team mate to score

It truly was all downhill from there.

Gunter is complete horseh*t. If he isn't bottling challenges and getting done on a one-on-one battle he is costing us goals with weak defending at the far post or - as you say - playing aimless long balls. Utter cack and one who can go in the summer and save us some £s.

Extended-Phenotype Injuries are not an excuse. Why is everyone getting injured? Why don't we have replacements?

Under-investment is not an excuse either. Why isn't our 'wonderful academy' providing us with appropriate cover?

And in the light of injuries, as everyone has said: why not protect the midfield with an extra man and go 4-5-1?

This one is on Adkins, I'm afraid. Poor management, poor selection, poor tactics.

Avon Royal Given that we have so much negative shit going on, why don't people give Nigel any credit for getting this team into the fight for the playoffs despite having to work against the ownership issue, lack of funds etc.

:|

We've just come out of the Premier League with parachute payments m8. Top 6 should be a minimum requirement. He doesn't get any credit for that, those payments were earned by previous, over-achieving regimes.

For god's sake.....

Parachute payments which have been tied up in big wages on players supposedly able to make us amongst the best performing sides in the league. Wayne Bridge, Royston Drenthe, Danny Williams.

Does that help make things a little clearer for you, my precious :?:

Do you actually believe that those three signings were down to Adkins? Those were Anton's vanity buys and you know it.

Yes, we've not had much fortune with injuries in centre midfield but we have also not had a consistent system this season also. Under previous regimes, if a player was injured, the incoming player knew where to slot in, the style of play, and what was expected of him. And, by and large, it wasn't a square peg in a round hole either. The late withdrawal of Guthrie really emphasized this point. Both Taylor and Tshibola should have been travelling with the squad. Yes they are young and inexperienced, but then so too are Obita and Hector, but they are central midfielders who are used to playing in that position. This is then compounded by putting Obita in midfield and seriously weakening the defence as Bridge is still not fit, and neither is Morrison. Gunter's confidence looks totally shot after the own goal at Brighton after having a decent run of games.

Despite all the plaudits for the U21s and U18s I am quite concerned that no-one has broken into the first team squad on a regular basis let alone play except Obita. As others have mentioned, many of these players like Samuel, Tanner, Tshibola are at least 19 years old - some are now 21, which probably means few, if any, will now break into the first team (though I think some of the U18s might do) . This is older than Luke Shaw is and he's been a first team regular for two seasons now. Very surprised after his full debut at Brighton that Hector hasn't held down a regular starting place given Gorkss' recent calamitous performances, and Jake Taylor seems to be persona non grata.

Hopefully Kuhl will get some 1st team experience before the end of the season.

TBF, any team with 4 injured central midfielders and another one having played 1 youth game after almost a season out, is probably going to struggle to find someone to slot in who knows the role.

Can you imagine our record breakers with Gunnarsson and er.. Baradji out injured only to then be followed by Sidwell and Harper at the last minute. Oster and Makin in midfield? *shudder*

Schards#2 Back from the game 20 hours ago but only now had the opportunity to vent my spleen.

In mitigation, losing both central midfielders in the 6 hours prior to kick off is a massive blow and throws anything you've been working on in training out of the window. It's the sort of thing that happens in Sunday league football when your midfield's been on a bender the night before, less so in the championship.

That said, this sort of scenario is where you would expect the management to earn their corn and for the rest of the team to stand up and be counted. Is anyone really surprised that in the face of adversity, this team and it's players completely folded and the game was over as a contest within 20 minutes? Mcdermott's team dug out results with the likes of Mullins, Czwfka (sp?) and Afobe playing, but that side had some character and a collective will to win, this one patently doesn't.

Taylor may as well leave, he's been passed over for Mcanuff, Hector and now Obita. If he can't get a game when every central midfielder we have is unavailable, he never will. I cannot understand playing Obita there, not only is he entirely unsuited, it also weakened the defence in a game where we were likely to be doing a lot of defending. Far better to keep the settled back four and make the enforced changes further forward. I would have started with Mcanuff and Taylor and brought on Leigetwood as and when necessary.

I no longer believe this shower will make the play offs, every time you think they are making progress, they don't just lose a game, they perform so abjectly it's difficult to fathom how the hell they've managed to win a game all season nd it is literally embarrassing to watch.

I really had faith in Adkins but he has been a massive disappointment, though, in fairness, I don't think we know the full story of what he's up against given the ownership shambles. My greater disdain is for the players who, collectively, have more than enough about them to be doing far, far better. Have a look at Burnley's squad and hang your heads in shame that your not within a million miles of them.

It looks like the club is rotting from the top, from Anton, downwards, thankfully it hasn't reached the acadamy yet. If there is no takeover, I fear for what is going to happen in the close season/next season. That said, I won't be shedding many tears for the loss of most of this gutless shower of mercenaries who have totally let the club and the fans down this season.

Another good turnout by the away fans though - lions following donkeys.

Remember Oster having a couple of excellent games in centre midfield, Liverpool away in the Cup being one. Love McAnuff to bits, but he's never played well in the middle.
