BFG U21 final

by nailseabiscuitman » 10 Apr 2014 22:49

Very enjoyable game. Bit harum scarum at times with defence putting themselves under pressure trying to play out out too often. Arron Kuhl head and shoulders above the rest of our players. Nice to see the football being played the way NA obviously wants the first team to do. Should be a cracking second leg, recommend going down to the Madstad. Cost me £1, what a bargain

Anyone looking capable of stepping into the first team this season... particularly in midfield or No. 10?

Did Tsh play?

Tish did indeed play but not sure he is ready for the step up. Also impressed with Stacey. Ugwu is big and strong but doesn't seem to have much guile about him, can see Chump defenders making mincemeat of him, Tanner a far better bet. Think people looking to them for this years team are over optimistic but green shoots of a decent side.

Want to see Kuhl get a chance, really neat footballer. Does the basics right and is composed.

Plus he's got the hair.

I think the hair will be our downfall.

It makes him stand out far more than any regular player, especially as he's so good.

I think the first thing Adkins needs to do is to get him down Supercuts for a French Crop, otherwise Barcelona will buy him.

Yet another 2 goal lead stacked by our 'all-conquering' youth team :!:

I read that the penalty/red card was down to the goalkeeper buggering about with the ball at his feet. I noticed from the snippets of goals/action I have seen that we give away an awful lot of possession in dangerous areas by over-playing for the sake of it in the wrong areas :!:

I watched the highlight, the ball was played back to him at quite a pace and his control meant the ball got away from him allowing the City player to nick it.

Naive defending.

Better to have young players stretching themselves and developing their skill on the ball at the back in the youth set up, evenif it leads to many errors. They can always play a little more conservatively when they get into the first team, but with a sound grounding of skill. Instead of just teaching them no nonsense football so they never develop any passing or control skills.

You can't play more skillfully and intricately if you haven't developed the skills. You can play more safely and directly if you have learnt them.

Agree.Only seen a few televised matches but Kuhl puts in a real shift and creates time on the ball... a class act in formation IMHO.

Kuhl isn't just technically good, he has real grit and a captains temperament.

Seems to be both footed, can pass it long and short and usually hits his target and tackles like a boss.

All you need in midfield. Could score more goals though, I guess

Re: His lack of goals, I've not seen nearly as much of him as you, but doesn't he play extremely deep? More of an advance defender than a defensive midfielder?

Admittedly this is just from the two legs of the U18 semi-final, of which I went to the home leg and watched the away one on the tellybox, but he seemed to be playing the "quarterback" role. A bit like what we've seen from Guthrie this season, coming to collect and distributing, always being an option. The David Luiz comparison is obvious because of his hair, but it seems apt in his style of play too.

That's how Ikpeazu looked this time last year. Arthurworrey for instance had him in his pocket.

Seems to be doing ok on loan at Crewe (3 goals in 10 starts)
