MmmMonsterMunch Saints should rightly have romped League 1 with the likes of Lambert, Shaw & Lallana playing.

Shaw didn't get a first league appearance until they were in the Prem.

Shaw would've only been 15 then wouldn't he? But I get your point...

Scrap Shaw then but that squad should have romped the league. Far more resources at their disposal than any one else that year.

If you're happy and you know it clap your hands.

Kind reminder of the players out of contract at the end of this season please.

Royal Rother Stay down.
Forget about takeovers.
Don't fcuk about.
Get rid of the big wage earners.
And sell McCarthy.
Pocket the parachute.
Bring more youngsters through on much lower wages.
Stabilise the finances in one season.
And reap the rewards in a couple of seasons.
Easy.

All dependent on making the decision not to fcuk about.

...and relegate.

Indeed, things can go stale very quickly if your not careful. Look at Blackpool.

Blackpool didn't / don't have a Cat 1 Academy with U21s and U18s amongst the best in the country.

Well that's Reading & Bournemouth done for IMO.

6th is between Brighton & Ipswich. Rooting for Mick I think.

Ascotexgunner Im beginning to think Southampton are a bit like Swansea in their setup. It doesn't matter who you put in charge the players/backroom staff/coaches know what to do and do it robotically on the pitch. Did Laudrup and Adkins try to change too many things there and those clubs didn't like it? Just putting it out there.
I wanted him at Reading but Im just starting to wonder a bit. A good manager should be able to lift even the most average of players. Look a bit above and youll see Pullis turn a hopeless situation around. All Im seeing is a team going backwards and that looks like it needs major surgery. The thing is, is it the whole team or just a few tweaks that are needed with someone else in charge. One or the other because even without the injuries we have been pretty awful in parts of the season.

So now explain away Adkins' other successes.

An alternative theory - at his other clubs he had proper backing from the owners?

He had a very good squad at Southampton, probably the best in the championship. Yet strangeley they bottled it against us and we got the title.
Clearly the management at Southampton saw something and replaced him. Sad yet that was their decision.
His win ratios so far at his 3 league clubs are

Scunthorpe 41%
Soton 54%
Reading 35% from a team that was backed to finish second in the league.

Agreed... and I'd much rather we invest in the academy than on journeymen, mercenary wasters from the Premier League or Championship.

Avon Royal
Mr.Swainey
sandman Avon ROFLyal once again defending the absolutely indefensible Nigel Adkins 'Reading FC' crap wagon with a pop at the previous manager.

It's because he is so clueless.

Yeah, I'm the "clueless" one for daring to defend a manager who hasn't been allowed to bring in his own players and has been left with the dross that McDermott brought in. By all means judge Adkins after he's had a fighting chance, but laying into him now just makes you sound pathetic.

Fair point in a sense but problem is will Adkins get to bring his own players in to any great degree any time soon?

McDermott inherited a struggling team in 2009 but took us to 9th and an Fa Cup quarter-final. Then another FA Cup quarter and a play-off final the following year. Then promotion the next, And for the first 2 years he had to sell a number of his best players and had a limit on who he could bring in. McDermott's more of a pragmatist in my view, Adkins more of an idealist.

Yes McDermott made some poor decisions/signings last year (though was someone like Pogrebnyak one of the vanity signings by Anton you mentioned?) But Adkins has to take some of the blame this year I think - his subs were baffling today and I think his general demeanour has in part contributed to the apathy amongst fans this year. Yes he might have been let down on some promises but isn't that just part of working life, especially managing at Championship level?
