Leigertwood tribute thread

by melonhead » 07 May 2014 10:28

doesnt seem right that he doesnt have his won thread.
happy for mods to move to the generic, loads of players leaving thread:

premiere league came as a bit of a shock for the guy, and he was found a touch lacking in a team with no confidence. disgracefully boo'd by some idiots in his last prem game
and injury ruined this season for him(and us)

but he was a great player for us, key in our championship winning run in, knew how to put a foot in, decent passer, good long range shot and always put a shift in.
and that's pretty much all i ask

He was a very solid and dependable player at Championship level and, although he apparently cost a fair bit, was a great purchase as he bought the phycial and calming presence to our midfield that we were sadly lacking at the time.

Did a great job for us and I hope that he realises how appreciated he really was for most of his time here.

One of my favorite ever players and an example of the short memories fans have.

- First season on loan we went unbeaten for about his first 20 games in the team, inspiring a new dawn Post-Coppell
- Doggedly winning almost every tackle the following season as we finished 1st, chipping in some significant goals too.
- Hounded out of the club after a few mistakes while trying to play through injury against the very best in the country.

I had him on my shirt in 2010/11. Very few players have had that honour.

Loved him when he came in on loan. Loved him getting signing permanently.

Somehow he was everywhere and the ball just stuck to him, you'd see a player on a mazy run through midfield, casual as you'd like Ledge would stick his leg out and the ball would stop whilst the player carried on.

Always known to come in with a bang then settle at clubs, lasted a little longer than many clubs before performances dropped and although there were some clangers and age caught up a bit, at times he was an unfair scapegoat and genuinely lovely guy.

Keeping him would have been a risk, he probably shouldn't have been playing at the end of this season but was thrown in because of our injury crises. Looked like he was going to have to retire from that injury too, but strong men keep on. His last performance was excellent and I'm glad he went out on a good performance.

Plus there was the LEDGEHAMMER, "one goal, we only need one goal" and crowdsurfing.

We've lost some great people from the club in Kaspars, Ledge and Jobi, which epitomised what this club has been about.

I miss him. In an almost Bryn way.

glad he got to play a bit at the end of the season, so his last memory wasnt getting boo'd off by ignorant cnuts
now his last memory is a massive failure to get to the playoffs in injury time of the last game of the season

I liked Leigertwood, premier league a step too far, but that wasn't his fault.

Was slightly out of his depth in the PL, but a terrific player at this level and - like McAnuff - always gave everything on the pitch. Scored some super goals too.

I'll miss you, LedgeEND (or something equally as cheesy)

Really glad he came back at the end of the season, after such a long injury. I am confident that if he'd been available all season we would at least have made the play-offs. Love him for his dependability and calm competence, and a cheerful disposition. Will be much missed. Wish him all the best - I suspect we will see him next season (and may regret what we've lost).

Can you ask him if he lives in Sandisplatt Road? And if he does, does he want to meet me at Budgeons?

First 6 months he was at the club he was a 8+/10 every game.
Might well have won POTS if he'd been there all season.
An important member of the Championship winning squad. Though imo at his best in those first 6 months.

I'm pleased his last match for us was a blinder.
