No chance of selling him and taking him on loan for a season then?

Lovely hot donuts! I have faith that Andersen would be a competent no.1 but am somewhat concerned that our no.2 would be Jon Henly. I'm not saying he doesn't have potential but he spent the end of this season playing for my second team, Maidenhead United. He did very well and was very popular with their fan's who are desperate to have him back for the new season. But that is for Maidenhead in the Skrill South! Really not confident he could step in and be any good in the championship should Andersen get injured. :(

Alex was playing for Team Bath end of one season then for Yeovil in League One the next, they loved him, then Leeds - who still harp on about him, then he went to Ipswich, they thought he was shit, .

We are quite happy to let the keepers out to a lower level and more experience with more teams, Holyport, Met Police, etc. We had no need for Henly to be around at that time, better he was learning with someone, anyone, than not playing for the first team or the u12s

I'd be more than happy with Andersen as our number 1.

maffff then he went to Ipswich, they thought he was shit, .

Youve said this before and it isnt true.
Ipswich thought their defence was shit. No keeper could have saved them, and please dont say you are basing this on McCarthy handling outside the box in one of their games - yep its a GK error, but it isnt the reason Ipswich shipped a ton of goals in that era. Thankfully McCarthy (Mick) has sorted that rubbish out.

As for Andersen as our Number 1. Really? And Ive wanted to say this for ages, but this aint Football Manager. There is absolutely no evidence that he is Championship class, and, Given that we've fcked him about with his contract, and GIVEN that Henly has already been on the bench in front of him (as he is elsewhere), and GIVEN!!! he has zero competitive games in England, you have to and I mean HAVE TO put Feds in front of him. You'd be insane not to. There are literally double figure number of players I would sell/ release/ give away for peanuts before considering selling Feds.

Including Andersen.

I personally think McCarthy should take most premiership contracts offered to him. He has got noticeably worse this year and he needs to figure put if its down to him or the fact he is behind a ropey defence. I wouldn't say Arsenal is out of the question. He wont get many games there, but he'll get some.

That's your opinion on what happened there not the Ipswich fans opinion of him as a player. From memory of reading their forum they were far from impressed.

But that is what forums do. Just read ours - an outsider would believe we hate everybody, including ourselves.
I know actual, breathing, real life human Ipswich fans (Imagine that) and their motto of the McCarthy era is 'Whatever, we were pony'. A Mac joined them at absolutely the worst time - they couldn't stop giving away soft goals before, during and after his tenure there.

(I know you like Feds, but I haven't dissed him at all here - it is quite possible to like more than one keeper at once.)

How do you reckon McCarthy would perform if he joined Ipswich on loan at the start of next season?

Most of what you say there is untrue.

Andersen has played 80 matches in League 1.

In his only full season there, he played 39 matches for Bristol Rovers, and came third in their Player Of The Year rankings. If you play that well in League One, it's fair to say that you've got a good chance in the Championship.

I think I am right in saying Henly only made the bench because McCarthy, Feds and Andersen were all injured.

I am not sure we have fcked him about with his contract. We offered him a long extension at the same time we did for Federici. Clearly that shows someone at the club rates him, for a start, and it also shows he knew he wasn't going to have a cakewalk into the first team.

Of course a goalkeeper who is proven in the Premier League like Federici would be picked ahead of Andersen, there's no doubt. But Federici is on much higher wages, and we could potentially get a transfer fee for him. We couldn't sell Andersen for very much right now.

Personally I'm not sure the financials are quite as disastrous as being made out and we'll be able to afford to keep Feds if we sell McCarthy, but if it truly is disastrous then we have a perfectly capable third choice, so it wouldn't be a disaster to lose both.

As much as there is a lot of bollocks written in your post I had to just pick up on this bit.

Andersen has played just shy of 90 first team games in England and has got good reviews from nearly all those clubs he's appeared for I believe, including winning their Young Player of the Year award whilst on loan with the Gas in 09-10.

He was also named goalkeeper of the tournament at Toulon in 2010.

Has he kicked on as yet from that early promise? Not sure, but he's got experience and some decent pedigree too. I wouldn't say he'd warrent selection over Federici, although I'm not sure anyone has suggested that, but if we had to cash in on both McCarthy and Federici and ended up with Andersen as number 1 it probably wouldn't be the end of the world.

Edit: What he said ^^^

How many league games had Feds played when he became our number 1?

Depends on whether you term a half-time sub appearance as a full game? Wiki (I know, I know but it's a fast reference), says he played two hlaves as a sub for Marcus before playing ten games in 2008 for Southend, apart from 40 non-league games for assorted clubs.

It also depends how you define "#1". He had a successful run of matches for us when Marcus was injured (that includes the game where he scored against Cardiff). Those 15 matches showed that he was ready to be our undisputed first choice the next season.

So it kind of kills the notion of league experience being required stone dead. AF (apparently!) only had ten competitive league matches before those 15, whereas Andersen has had 90+. I guess it doesn't really matter, if the player is good enough then they are ready. After all, how many matches had Richard Wright played for Ipswich before he moved to Arsenal? 200 odd. We all know what happened then. Being good enough for one league is not a guide that you will be good enough at a higher level.

Anyone any idea of the full list of league games played by Marcus and Shaka before they took over between the sticks for us ?

Hahnemann had played 7 league games in England before joining us on loan in 2001-02, he subsequently became our number after signing permanently for 2002-03. He did however have 6 seasons prior to that in the US to fall back on.

Wasn't Shaka scouted out of school?

Shaka made his debut up at West Brom (IIRC) and I think he then kept the shirt after that with Steve Francis leaving at the end of that season. I think you could argue he'd played 0 games.

Marcus would've played a decent number of games in the States but I think it was only a handful Fulham and Rochdale before we took him on loan. He then proved his ability on loan before we signing him full time.

Either way, both of them had less first team experience here than Andersen.

So despite their lack of experience both Marcus and Shaka managed to do OK for us.

I suspect Andersen's prospects will depend on his ability and attitude more than the number of games he's played. Whether deficiencies in either have been a reason why he's not played for us I don't know although he seems very capable ...

Like someone mentioned earlier Mikkel's time in Randers FC has not been very successful. Both him and the team had hoped that he would be the number one keeper, but that didn't work out.

According to Danish Tipsbladet Randers are not interested in keeping him and he will therefore return to Reading now that his loan expires. The club states the usual "sorry it didn't work out and we wish him all the best in his future career" He got 12 first team games in total for Randers.
