Unfortunately, while I don't agree with most of what RoyalBlue posts, and don't understand quite the level of bile in most of his posts about JM, he is correct on this. I heard the same interview with BBCRB and he did quite clearly state that funds would be available in January, either from himself, AZ or both. At the time, I'm sure he fully believed it too, and was as disappointed as the rest of us when it became apparent AZ was planning on doing a Lord Lucan.

What was said isn't really the point. No one in their right mind treats stuff said in football interviews as legally binding but for some reason RB this particular comment as something special. Talk of integrity etc is just daft, and what punishment is supposed to be inflicted on SJM for welshing on his promise to throw millions at the club is unclear.

There was hope of funds in January, they didn't materialise. RB can sue SJM for breach of promise, mental cruelty or whatever else but maybe moving on and not obsessesing over a local radio interview would be a more grown up approach.

RoyalBlue Completely wrong but once again the Madejski apologists seek to rewrite history and pretend things don't exist. He publically stated in an interview with Tim Dellor on BBCRB just before Xmas that funding would be available. No qualification of that statement at all. The word 'hope' was not used. Dellor seemed surprised by this so pushed him and got him to repeat the statement. Dellor also asked him who would be providing the funding and IIRC Madejski said both AZ and he. The tape exists, Adi Williams said the were going to dig it out and play it. They dug the tape out, but guess what? Williams and the BBC are so matey/in awe/in fear of Madejski that they stopped playing it before they got to Dellor's questions and Madejski's statements regarding transfer funding! Anyone who claims that Madejski didn't make the commitment either didn't hear the original interview, or has been conned by the BBC's subsequent editing or is a liar.

Elm Park Pasty Now, if someone tracked down the mysterious Mr Zingarevich and filled in a few blanks there, that would be another story..........

Why blanks? Live rounds would be better

royalgrumpy Perhaps SJM has gone very quiet because he is aware of the media attention about his finances, and also a high profile journalist who is close to releasing his story that RFC have suddenly become a very big part of. It seems our John has been in a lot of trouble for a very long time, and the take-over wasn't as clean cut as we were lead to believe. It may be an eye-opening read when it comes out.

Any idea which publication it would be in? I would prefer not to read 'Nick Gutteridge' or 'Reading Chronicle' in the reply by the way :D

The thing is, why get so hung up about it? It's done, and we didn't go up.

IIRC he said transfer fundings would be a mixture of SJM's and Anton's. At the time he wasn't "unduly concerned" that Anton had done a runner and he may well have had conversations with him to the effect of "Yes, John, I'll give you some money in January" which meant he was confident enough to come out and say it. I even remember SJM saying there "should be funds", and not "there 100% definitely will be funds".

Just saying, consistently lambasting him in hindsight is silly and boring. I very much doubt that he would've just come out and said it for the sake of keeping the fans happy, when it'd likely come back to bite him on the arse. I think January was as much Anton's fault than SJM's.

But as I said, who gives a fcuk. It's done now, change the record and move forward, and hope SJM finds someone to invest.

What's the point of bleating like a child about something said last December when SJM more likely to ditch RFC totally to avoid being insolvent.

We should be more concerned about surviving the next season that not signing anyone last Jan.

From OS
"Royals supporters have responded well to season ticket renewals for the 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship campaign so far - and you have until the 30th of May to renew and secure your seat at the renewal price!

More season tickets have been secured for the upcoming season than had been sold at this point last year, and a swell in sales was recorded immediately after the disappointment of the final game of the season against Burnley, perfectly demonstrating our fans’ loyalty to the club. Thank you for your support."

So it seems most of us are not all that bothered what was or wasn't promised, even if this is a bit of marketing spin.
Only if you bought a half-season ticket on the basis of promised star signings, then you might have a bit of a grumble, but then if you did, well......

How do we know the above statement is true? - It's designed to make everyone panic and buy their tickets now.

Yep, can't believe a lot of what the club spins us 'loyal fans' these days. I wish Uri Geller was still around... at least was fun shouting "Stop bending the truth Yuri" when he grabbed the mic that day.

"A swell in in sales was recorded immediately after the game"... Sales in what ?... zero sales to one sell is a swell in sales. And how exactly does that demonstrate loyalty ?. Isn't loyalty sticking with something no matter what.. friendship etc. So the club wants friends, but misleading people won't gain you any friends !.

As for the emails they are sending titled "We Belong" and with content "The club is nothing without our fans, and in return for your loyalty, we hope to deliver plenty of excitement with a new breed of Royals heroes!"..... Now that's a real return for loyalty !!!.... NOT... For oxf*rd sake someone sack the marketing team at RFC !

Hence the phrase, "even if this is a bit of marketing spin"

But if you think that everything the club says is untrue - when they say we're skint & cutting the cloth, they really mean we've signed Messi, Ronaldo & Bale! Nice one :D

I can't see any reason for SJM to go on air with this unless he thinks he's probably going to have to let the club go into administration and he's trying to manage his public image in advance.

RIP Reading FC.

Why would you need to panic buy a renewal of something the is reserved specifically for you up to a certain date, which no one else can buy until that date has passed?

Oh dear. He didn't go on air.

It was a feature about his finances that he played no part in.

Utterly pointless feature really stating what most of us all know anyway. Completely done without input from JM who declined to be interviewed. Honestly have no idea what the BBC were trying to do with the whole exercise other than just fill time.

But that's what I'd expect from a marketing depth
Not sure what ur point is

The clue is in the word marketing

I'm not saying it's untrue, I'm saying there is no way to verify whether it is true or not. They don't even quote any numbers.... It's probably designed to reassure fans, to get them to renew/buy a ST as soon as possible (bring in some cash) and to make any fans who are questioning the club feel as though they are in the minority.
