Ian Royal Could have said the same about Obita and Hector this time last year.

Or Sigurdsson & Church in 2009.

Or Karacan & Pearce in 2008.

Since 2005 we've promoted youth players handing out league debuts as:
2005/06 - Cox
2006/07 - None
2007/08 - Henry, Pearce
2008/09 - J.Kelly, Church*, Sigurdsson, Karacan
2009/10 - Bignall, Robson-Kanu, Davies, Antonio+
2010/11 - McCarthy
2011/12 - J.Taylor
2012/13 - Samuel
2013/14 - Hector, Obita

None of the 2009/10 players were given their debut by McDermott.

Shows just how barren it was for the kids under McDermott with only McCarthy, Taylor and Samuel having one sub appearance each. He seemed to be very very risk adverse when it came to giving McCarthy a chance, too.

League debuts
Pearce was 08/09
Henry was 08/09
Sigurdsson was 09/10
Taylor was 10/11

No. Julian Kelly. Liam has never featured for the first team, and certainly wouldn't have when he was 13....

Whatever happened to JK? Always thought he looked a bit rubbish.

P!ssed Off League debuts
Pearce was 08/09
Henry was 08/09
Sigurdsson was 09/10
Taylor was 10/11

Taylor 10/11 May 2011.
Sigurdsson 09/10 September 2009
Henry 08/09 August 2008
Pearce 08/09 August 2008

Ok, so, yeah, I cocked that up. What you wrote is what I meant. Appears I don't know when one year ends and another starts

Since 2005 we've promoted youth players handing out league debuts as:
2005/06 - Cox
2006/07 - None
2007/08 - None
2008/09 - J.Kelly, Church*, Henry, Pearce, Karacan

2010/11 - McCarthy, J.Taylor
2011/12 - None
2012/13 - Samuel
2013/14 - Hector, Obita

None of that changes that I was writing about McDermott, anyway.

Also shows the year or two after missing out on promotion following being relegated provides opportunity...

kwik-silva I'm still gutted we sold Antonio. I loved him.

I hated him. Despised him as a player. Thought he was shit. Great at running down blind alleys and losing the ball.

But his legs seemed to bend in ways that I still don't fully understand. Plus, he scored against us this year so he'll probably be our first signing this summer.

Yeah, that is what raw players do - especially those on the wings. I thought he was rather decent, tbf, and just got caught playing in a position where we had half decent first team players. He's pretty decent at Sheff W as well. Not sure why you would despise him, tbh.

agree

From Tooting & Mitchum to Reading to a Sheff Weds mainstay....just needed that extra bit of time, training pitch time and exposure to first team games....a bit like Obita has recently thrived on with us

Saying that - sometimes you just have to let a player go. Wrong place, wrong time and all that. I think it was the right decision to let him go (as Sheff W definitely wanted him.)
(Doesnt make him despisable, of course)

Given the amount of times he used to trip over the ball he must have turned up drunk to most of the games.

Anotonio had a long throw.
i love a good long throw.

Anyway, have these players actually signed the contracts yet, or are they still just 'offered'?

I expect they're checking out their options and seeing what negotiations might be possible. Very few are just gonna sign the first thing they get offered straight away.

I hate long throws. They're almost exclusively shit. Just like short corners.

Actually I think the fact we've said 'offered' effectively means they've signed, otherwise we'd have put them in the same bracket as Hector and Taylor and just have said something about negotiations ongoing.

They're not going to make a big event each time one of the 18 actually puts pen on paper, at least I hope not otherwise it will signal a pretty long summer...

Yeah, I assumed they'd signed.
Reading Chronicle ran the headline: Eighteen Reading FC youngsters sign new contracts in Academy shake-up
But official line was 'offered'.
