AFC Reading???

by Reading4eva » 28 May 2014 19:41

Is there a real danger we might have to eventually do this. I wish we could rewind back to 2011, after the playoff final and just stick with Sir John. Fcuk the promotion to the Premier League and fcuk the Drenthe & Pog signings! I want my club back with a sturdy chairman, doesn't matter if we stay stuck in the Championship for years... As long as the club isn't in danger!

If it has to be done who is with me

There's not really that much a danger though is there? Genuinely surprised there's people who think we're replicating the Pompey trajectory. If this takeover goes through then we should hypothetically be safe for a bit.

We use to moan about Mr Mad but really they were good times weren't they. Playing in the second tier at ramshackle but loveable Elm Park, moving to the Mad Stad, 3 playoff final appearances. 1994/95 and 2003/04 where we nearly shot through the Second tier. And of course 2005/06.

Could we of done it if we weren't so astutely ran. Probably not.

One new owner comes in, we see a promotion, relegation and then financial meltdown! If there's a new Madejski out there, step forward

The kits would have to change and we'd have to call it Reading City just to piss off her majesty

'Financial Meltdown' which could be cured within the month with a new owner. Let's just take a breath, and see how things play out.

You would have to turn Madejski's brain back too. Some need to recognise that, just as in the case of a much loved player, chairmen eventually go past their best before date and then rapidly deteriorate. Madejski stopped being sturdy some time back.

'Xactly.

Tbh I don't think we're in any worse a financial st8 than we were 3 years ago, there's just much more public awareness about it atm.

we are, because we spent two and a half seasons under AZ spending even more than we would have under SJM.

Yes, but we've also had a far greater revenue stream than we did back then. We ran at a £3m loss last year according to the accounts. That's considerably better than the £10m that we were running in the couple of years before AZ.

Yeah what a oxf*rd putting in £25m.

If McDermott hadn't of made some weird tactical decisions during our time in the prem things could be very different right now.

the 3m was in the prem wasnt it?
the years before AZ we made profits didnt we? due to big player sales each year

What's your point? I'm not saying we wouldn't be better off if SJM had been in charge for the prem year, I'm saying the situation we're in now is just as bad as the one we were in 3 years ago.

but AZ lent all the money to us....
we lost 3 in the prem. and lost much more than that in the other years.
& our wage bill is much higher than it was 3 years ago.
