genome Other clubs and fans' perception of this guy is interesting...

I like Le Fondre, i'm surprised he's aiming so low though. He proved he can hack it in the Premier League. Even coming off the bench for half a season he managed to score 12 goals. I'm honestly surprised a mid-table prem club haven't bought him.

great signing by Cardiff

Good luck to him Cardiff have got a serious player there wouldn't surprise me if hes top scorer in champ next season you have yourself there a bargain.

Yet we're mostly saying no big loss... I'm of the opinion we will miss him unless this takeover goes through and we can spend some money.

He's a goalscorer, and clubs value that - he proved that in limited starts here, and his record in the lower leagues is brilliant. My only surprise is that a few clubs weren't fighting for him.

And what surprises me most about our reaction to him leaving is not 'he was over-rated' - there are always 100 smart-arses ready to tell us a former player was actually shit - it is little acknowledgement of what this leaves us up front. HRK and Blackman. Lovely.

It's all very well listing free agents like Matty Fryatt, but if we can't convince ALF to stay and/or pay the wages he wants, nor will we be signing up costly frees either.

Hes a strange one Alf, I agree he has a knack of scoring but also missed some sitters. He was missing for most of the games he started (hence why kept on bench by two managers) but he gave us some good times so good luck to him and thanks for paying our tax bill.

Its hard to say how much of an effect this will have on the club until the takeover happens but all we can do now is get behind our players. Seen a few comments of "wotz Blackman done" well he's done alright but could probably do better when tw@ts aren't booing him.

Top scorer in every season at the club. 27 league goals in the last two seasons. HRK has 11. McCleary has 8.

Yes I'm ignoring Pog (18) but I really can't see him being at Reading in August.

You've had a shocker there Sangers..

Anyway, this should make people feel slightly better about it all:

Charles Watts ‏@charles_watts 47s
From what I'm told the fee for Adam Le Fondre is 'considerably more' than £1m. Closer to £2.5 (plus add ons) #ReadingFC

Some people just don't have a clue... we've just sold our best striker and we don't have any money to replace him how can some people be happy he's gone?
Maybe it's time Blackman pulled his finger out and proved his worth!!!

Looking at the top Championship scorers this season, not many were signed for big money at all so there is value out there and no reason why Blackman or even HRK couldn't step up next season and score well. As I've already mentioned above most of our better strikers were signed for comparatively low fees, we just need to find the next Long and Doyle.

Ross McCormack 28 goals £350k
Jordan Rhodes 25 goals £8m
Troy Deeney 24 goals £500k
Lewis Grabban 22 goals £300k
Chris Martin 22 goals FREE
Danny Ings 21 goals c£1m
David Nugent 20 goals FREE
Sam Vokes 20 goals £350k
Charlie Austin 19 goals £4m
Craig Bryson 16 goals £350k

Yep good luck Alfie, where I can see he's not everyone's cup of tea, he's a proven goalscorer, who at times had only short match time, but still generally produced the goods. Now we'll be left with the god like Pog who is draining the club dry monetarily, and not producing on the pitch. HRK who for the last 5 seasons people have said well he's only young he'll improve-well he hasn't and Blackman who nearly always looks out of his depth at championship level. Worrying times

ALF was never realistically going to sign a new deal, so we HAD to sell...and we HAD to sell for this tax malarkey. All things considered, there's little the club could do. To that end, it's the best outcome that was viable.

As for Blackman, if given a consistent run, who knows!

42 appearances, 4 goals. Blackman makes early Shane Long look prolific.

He's not played many full games, and a lot of those have been out on the wing, though.

Likewise most of Long's appearances were as a sub in his first few seasons. You've got to make more of an impact than Blackman does - he rarely contributes, nevermind actually change a game. Sure, he might come good, but it's really difficult to see it happening. At least Long had pace, which he eventually married up to some ball control and positional sense. Blackman doesn't really have any of that.

I've not seen much of Blackman, but when I have, he's looked lazy and disinterested, as well as rubbish.

Cardiff have a manager who was himself a super-sub in his Man United days, so maybe that's why he's signed Alfie.

Our loss, especially if we have no funds to replace him. Maybe Pog and HRK will work well together up front?... Although Blackman has a chance, maybe he'll take it?

Oh come on, you're forgetting the contribution Blackman makes besides actual goalscoring.....which is absolutely NIL.
