Watch it with some Arab commentary. Can't stand a word they're saying. Probably something camel related I'd guess.

But my oh my are they fun to listen to when a goal is scored. Much crazier than Italian commentators.

TBM
Whore Jackie Tips hat to Danny Murphy.

Yep thought he was good and interesting to listen to

Can't say I go along with that. Tried too hard but ended up talking too much, and quite a lot of rubbish. Better in the studio.

On a par with Phil Neville tonight I thought.

tbh i would rather a co-commentator talked about things we can't see - i mean we're watching the game so hearing someone say "he hit that from fully 30 yards and it just went over the bar" when we can see that, is pointless. He was pointing out positions players were dropping in to, the work-rate of certain players off the ball, how the wing backs were operating in the 2nd half compared to the first etc.

Phil Neville just stated the obvious and sent everyone to sleep.

Yeah, guess so.

I just thought he rattled on too much.

Who's doing the England game tonight?

What you need from a summariser is some insight. An explanation behind why mistakes were made or what was particularly good about something. I am no tennis player but Jim Courier is one of the best summarisers out there. During the Australian Open last year he spoke about a player's body and feet position which ensured that the ball could only go in one place. I do not need someone to tell me what I can see.

^^^ This. Murphy may not have been perfect but at least he was trying to get across some tactical info. Particularly liked his exasperated "dink it" when one player went for power. He also admitted his mistakes if he got something wrong. Neville (P) was actually trying to do some of that, he just sounded like a robot. BBC should never have given him that game for his first go at co-commentary.

Thierry Henry is like someone who's permanently stoned, like one those dudes you sit opposite in an Amsterdam coffee shop.

How long has the Maracana been called the Marry Kana? wish they'd stop calling it that.

Agreed Murphy was good with his summarising, he even gave some medical info concerning the injury of the Chile bloke and made a lols call of 'good foul' when a Spaniard was uprooted in a dangerous attacking position.

Yep, I too thought Phil Neville was actually delivering some useful info, albeit in a completely non-interesting monotone. Co-commentating is a completely different job to being a pundit. Haven't got Sky, but by all accounts Gary Neville is much better at studio punditry and analysis on a Monday night than he is co-commentating on a Sunday.

Let’s not forget how shit GNev was when he first went to Sky, so I think it’s a bit ridiculous to write off PNev so readily.

I also agree that Murphy was good, as he actually gave some genuine incite. The worst summarisers IMO are Andy Townsend and Niall Quinn, as all they do is describe what’s happening in front of your eyes. Quinn even talks you through fukking slow-motion replays, as if you’re not watching the same thing as him.

personally I could without any summarisers and minimal commentating. If I wanted to watch football with someone yammering in my ear about irrelevant shit I'd watch it with mrs leon.

... that 'Posh FC-following-ginger-whinger' on Talksh!te has just entered the ranks of his very own 'Heads Gone' arcade; claiming Italy and Uruguay have cheated England of their place in the next phase, by being so crap vs C.Rica whilst playing so well against Woy's Boys! :D :D :D

Watching England go out on ITV was particularly painful. There were the cringeworthy Andy Townsend comments but I h8ed the most tHose adverts with Joe Hart ( two different ads?)......the hilarious Beckham one......Chiles ..... Dixon , who is Arsenal incarn8 :|
