Which game will you watch tonight?

by BR2 » 24 Jun 2014 13:34

With England playing Costa Rica and Uruguay playing Italy which game will people watch?
I will probably go with the Uruguay game as it seems to be a more significant match rather than watch England's let's -give- a -game- to -anybody-that-hasn't-played yet team.
Spain adopted a much more professional approach by playing most of their first choices last night whereas we are treating the game as a Fat Fwank testimonial.

There is a minor argument for young players getting a bit of experience but for dead beats like Milner and Lampard who presumably will never play for England again what is the point?
Also the game is on ITV so to listen to Tyldesley and Townsend doing an England game again is just too much and I don't want to watch a game with no commentary.

I'll be largely watching the competitive one.

I think Roy's attitude is pretty disrepectful to the competition and the fans that have travelled there.

He should be trying to win the game and playing his best team, if needs be trying a different formation but not just giving everyone a game.

Neither.

Bit annoyed actually were England still in the chase it would've been a good excuse to down tools at 4:30 and decamp to a public house.

Ditto x.

I'll get home about 6, go for a run, then shrug my shoulders when I see the score.

Actually I thought of something - cartography. I'm concerned that google maps is putting cartographers out of business in the same way wikipedia did the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

Google maps has its uses but it's predominantly for urban areas and looking for businesses. Although even in these areas something like street map is so much more aesthetically pleasing.

No, please don't paint me as some kind of luddite. In fact I'm glad those cowboys went to the wall.

See, there's something else you're passionate about.

A little nostalgia doesn't make one a luddite. For my part the memory of my Dad coming home with a copy of Encarta on CD gives me an inexplicable frisson of excitement. That wafer-thin gap in encyclopedic history between the age of the hardback tome and that of the internet site.

I thought (encarta) was a bit creepy. Dunno maybe it was the clip art, the sound or the tone of the articles, I'm not sure. But it felt like a kind of we'll educate you, but we'll do it our way. The Microsoft way.

What was that game on Encarta? You used to be able to play it instead of learning how to use the shift key to capitalise letters in IT lessons at school

+1

what right did they have to use the term "Britannica"? That lent it an air of authenticity it did not deserve, frankly.

mind you, it helped me with my homework back in the 1970's. In my dressing gown and jimjams, just after my Sunday bath/Songs of Praise and before Last of the Summer Wine/All Creatures Great and Small.
