Interesting bit on the U.S.A following and other supporters at the WC.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-magazin ... r-27978699

Never heard of the 'Outlaws' and that they have 'Chapters' not branches of supporters - in true Americana style I suppose.

Record 25m audience watched the Portugal game in the US - good effort being as it's only on cable TV over there.

Some other impressive figures recorded elsewhere:

http://edition.cnn.com/2014/06/21/sport ... ing-stats/

34.1m in Japan for the Ivory Coast game is also good going.

Muntari and Boateng fight their team officials as £3m in cash is driven through the streets in an attempt to avoid strike action. Bruce Springsteen states his opposition to biting in all forms of sport. Hulk Hogan issues warning to Germany.

This is the day the World Cup went mental.

Just heard ITV say there have been as many South America vs South America ties today as in the last 14 years of World Cup Finals. Although Costa Rica are more Central America than south.

But it had me thinking, has there ever been an Africa vs Africa or Asia vs Asia World Cup Finals tie? I'm guessing not.

Costa Rica are most certainly more central than south, but they aren't playing today.

South Korea Vs Russia in this WC could be argued as Asia Vs Asia

and if I can have that then I can have Russia Vs Japan in 2002

Russia qualify via UEFA, so I'm not having that.

No they moved to the Asian confederation a few years back for greater competition, so are now Asian in a footballing sense.

Yes, so if we are not basing it on geography and instead on qualifying region then Oz have played Japan at the WC so that would be Asia Vs Asia

It's called Oceania, thank you very much! :x

And the play-off varies. Sometimes its an Asian team, sometimes a South American one (Oz qualified in 2006 by beating Uruguay over two legs, NZ qualified in 2010 after getting the better of Bahrain).

This time around, NZ were eliminated in the play-offs by Mexico.

Wouldn't it be nice to be in a conference with automatic qualification, like........ ALL THE REST OF THEM!!
