Ascotexgunner Ive heard the apologists on the radio moaning why wasn't the Italian banned as well. Its hysterical their stance.

For deliberately allowing himself to be bitten ?

Presumably for instinctively reacting to Suarez biting him by trying to shove him off and elbowing him in the face in the process. Gave Suarez a bit of a shiner.

I'm not defending him or excusing his behaviour (it's disgusting and shouldn't be tolerated, certainly not when it's at least his third offence), but was there as much moral indignation when Jermaine Defoe bit Javier Mascherano?

I can't understand how Suarez and those around him think they can play dumb over this and deny it. I know he's trying to protect himself but that approach really can't help in any circumstances when the proof is so damning.

Quite. Not just for his football but his future sponsorships, possible media work etc, surely far better to say 'I've got a problem and I'll seek help'. Doesn't help in that regard that the Uruguay teamhave rallied around him. I don't remember the Defoe incident - but if Rooney had done this at a World Cup, I feel he wouldn't play for England for a long time, ban or otherwise.

But then Barca might pay a 'biter' £250k a week - perhaps less likely to part with that money for someone with admitted 'problems'.

It's certainly more comical, if not just because he has to crawl towards him like a dog before biting him.

It does surprise me that this hasn't been mentioned a lot more in relation to Suarez's troubles.

To be fair, from his angle (and every angle provided by the replay) it looks like Defoe does little more than kiss him on the arm.

Is kissing someone an offence?

Have you not seen the image from behind Mascherano where it's clear Defoe has his chops clamped round his arm?

Er yeah, not really going to criticise the ref for not travelling forward in time to buy tomorrows newspaper before he makes a decision.

:?:

Exactly what it says? Like I said, from the refs angle it doesn't look like he bit him. Unless he has a copy of tomorrows Sun to hand, I dunno how he could be sure what Defoe did.

Oh right, I get what you mean. I was still talking about the wider discussion of the incident not the ref missing it. Although, to be honest, the ref was about 5 yards away and had a pretty good view from side on of what happened so not sure I agree anyway.

Sangers asked how the ref could miss it, so was just responding to that.

And no, Defoe bites the arm furthest from the ref, so he would not have as good a view as some of those pictures from the other side.

Uruguay's President Jose Mujica has called football's world governing body Fifa "a bunch of old sons of bitches" over Luis Suarez's four-month ban.

Yeah, hence my comment about now understanding what you meant....

As for his view, IMO, from where he was he'd have watched Defoe crawl up to him and so should've been paying attention. He'd have had a view of the bite as his arm is out infront of him and the ref is coming from the side with nothing to really block the view.

It's reasonably clear (IMO) so he wouldn't actually have had to wait for tomorrows paper.

Apparently Barca wouldn't sign him unless he said sorry....not that he has been completely honest about what he did, but it is better than nothing!

Suarez - or his PR agent finally see sense:

I deeply regret what occurred," added Suarez. "I apologise to Giorgio Chiellini and the entire football family. I vow to the public that there will never again be another incident like this.
