multisync1830 I'm not up in money laundering so walk me through this.

I get money illegally or I don't declare money and pour it into a loss making business the other side of the world. What is in it for me?

As an aside Thailand has strict anti ML laws and a 78 year old respectable business woman is unlikely to be interested in this plus it's far to high profile.

It can only be for the land which will most likely be transformed around the stadium and Bearwood. Where the club fits in less obvious.

I don't buy the whole 'it can only be for the land' story. Sir John seemingly had his pick of groups that all wanted the club for the land, and by the sounds of it the likes of Phoenix would have gone through the financing part far quicker.

Why does anyone buy any company? Because they believe that the potential value of the company is greater than the price they are paying. There is real potential at RFC. We have a strong supporter base, a good amount of land, a modern stadium with grounds for expansion, an excellent academy, and compared to a lot of clubs not a huge amount of debt. As well as 3 more years of parachute payments. It could well be that the Thais have recognised that with no debt this club will only need a small amount of investment to capitalise on the decent infrastructure that has been built over the past 15 years.

Some will choose to offer different scenarios, and that's fair enough (once bitten twice shy and all that), but to suggest that Money Laundering is the 'one and only reason' is a complete joke. And I believe there is far more to this deal than just land development. Time will tell - John seems pretty happy and as long the FL tests don't point to insincere intentions I'm happy to give the Thais a chance to tell us their plans and then see if they back those plans up.

I think people need to consider we NEEDED to pay off the money owed.

If they pay that money owed, then all is well. We will soon see there intentions.

Police Utd's fan base may be small, but this WILL grow our club name on the farthest side of the planet, the brand will grow INEVITBALY (albeit if there will be some moody shirts on the market... Bonus!)

I welcome our new Thai friends with open arms and I hope we can press on knowing full well that the ownership situation is sorted (barring the FAPPT) and can only hope this is reflected in the dressing room.

So far we have Samrit and Srivikorn; two business people who from what I've read; I highly doubt will want to ruin their respective business identities.

Onwards and Upwards

One word : consortium.

If that isn't enough to set alarm bells off then nothing will. The development of the land could be used to help the club or the club could be stripped of assets and given away 5 years down the line. I suspect the Thai's said all the right things whilst the others were more honest nothing more nothing less.

I still believe the Omani deal was the best for the club (if not for BZ + SJM)

We'll see. I don't write off respected individuals on the back of one word.

Ian Royal There really are few chairman out there who've done more for their club.

Like virtually make them bancrupt and then give them to Thai ladyboys, you mean?

We're not there yet though are we?

We're only entering into the partnership

Also where's Samrit? It's all about Sasima now as the face of the consortium

Apparently, the Thai self-publicist, who is 107 going on 23, needed to extend her publicity machine (think North Korea). RFC is now a background to that situation. Madejski must really be on his uppers! For the rest of us, RIP Reading! I hope not but, we are cutrrently a JOKE!

Not sure why RFC fans should be crapping themselves over the word "consortium".

Ah right, here we go....

"A consortium is an association of two or more individuals, companies, organizations or governments (or any combination of these entities) with the objective of participating in the shared activity of asset stripping, with a bit of money laundering chucked in for the buzz and giggles."

Dear oh dear. You are the one making me chuckle right now, not RFC.

At least the club have said something, can't help but feel the earlier statement from the consortium has forced the clubs hand slightly. Now for a cheeky loan deal for gylfi  and maybe a couple of bids for wells and rhodes

You cant help but wonder if this is a way of getting money out of Thailand if it is as bad as they say.
Four wealthy people who face the prospect of having a chunk of their wealth effectively frozen by the state get together, get funds out of the country by " investing" in a football club.
Yes its a bit risky knowing football but a year or so down the line flog it off for whatever and turn it back into cash......

Yeah that would be terrible. Remember the last time that Pairoj bloke helped sell a club to the Thais only for it to be sold on a year or two later?

So a statement has been made by the club at last that doesn't change or add anything to what we already know, so still waiting for the FL to finish their meanderings, in the mean time it's boosted this thread by a couple of pages but in the long term it's all "as you were"

Nothing has changed. Still waiting for the FL to green light it, until then nothing will continue to happen.

Welcome a team of youngsters with 1 striker (presuming he survives the "friendly" tomorrow) and a violently pink shirt in the stuffing at Wigan next week.

Gav
under the tin Put it this way, were I looking at maximising the madstad site, I'd put things there that Reading lacks.
A proper Olympic-size, all singing, all dancing, swimming/diving complex, complete with flumes.
Our local council will never be able to afford to replace the Central Pool. They would rip the arm off any developer prepared to take our existing facilities out of the last century. Ditto an Ice rink. Both projects circumnavigate the community use stipulation, and would get planning approved in a heartbeat.
A football club that owned these facilities on top of a hotel would then be an attractive proposition going forward. That's what I'd look at, anyway

Oh, you might as well just rip the cold, barely-thumping heart completely out of Bracknell while you're at it.

This isn't about Bracknell. It's about potential development os a site in Reading.

If you're inferring that putting these kind of facilities would have a negative impact on Bracknell, then the empirical evidence shows otherwise.
The existence of Ice rinks at nearby Slough and Basingstoke suggest that Bracknell is quite capable of looking after itself.
A new pool in Reading does not mean that Coral Reef will go out of business.

I remember the retail sector in Bracknell collectively sh1t a brick when the Oracle was planned/built.
The ongoing total redevelopment of Bracknell's dated town centre will ultimately improve the shopping experience for its citizens. This seroius anount of inward investment is happening because Bracknell realised that it had to "raise its game" in order to compete. The arrival of the Oracle will ultimately benefit Bracknell.

I don't disagree (too much) with any of that, it just amused me that the specific examples you gave were two of the shining jewels in Bracknell's papier mâché crown. It was just a throwaway quip; I don't really believe you're trying to destroy Bracknell.

It is kinda hilarious to see the totally unjustified yet hilarious response from those other social media and the usual suspects here. We have absolutely zero evidence that Group X or Consortium Y or Single Individual Z would be good, bad or indifferent for this or any takeover at any club anywhere.

Who knows what's in store? Absolutely nobody does. Yet some will err on the side of the massively negative because they'll massage their ever so awesome internet ego by saying "I told you so..." if it ends up like Anton's 'venture', but revel in it all if Reading FC return to our best and achieve greater things...as if their crushing negativity never happened, as nobody will remotely care what they thought when the takeover happened.

It's tiresome and frankly, boring to read over and over. Quit acting like you know any better than anyone else, you don't. You have no idea just like the rest of us. Relax and enjoy the ride!!
