Sir John seems happy even if the rest of you miserable gits aren't.

Far be it from me to p!ss on the parade but when Anton joined didn't he say he was "The dream ticket"?! I shall treat the takeover news with the caution it merits. I think JM has lost an awful lot of credibility now & the fans are probably as p!ssed off as they've ever been.

From a general point of view, I'm still quite sad we've become one of 'those' clubs.

That being said, I am still very much looking forward to the season & hope some of the youngsters can make a lasting impression on the first team.

I think most of us are "hoping" that the youngsters make it whereas the likes of winch and nameless already have all of them as if it is just a matter of time before they are all playing international football on the back of doing fairly well against other kids.
A bit of reality here-very few youngsters make it to this level in any one year and nameless's "half the team" seems a bit of an exaggeration as the players are spread over about a 5 year period and I would only regard McCarthy, Obita, Pearce and (when not injured) Jem as youth team players that are now likely to be regulars this season and hopefully we will get a better centre-back than Pearce.

Fortunately it appears that Adkins is wise enough to look at bringing new players in with the rumour about a Spanish left-back being the first now that ownership (partnership) looks to be settled and I look forward to more coming in and the youngsters like Taylor and Kuhl being gradually brought through with no great expectation.

Think you will find the Madjeski song will be chanted again and again and again this season.

I'm not saying he isn't liked, I'm saying he's lost a lot of credibility. We know fcuk all about these new owners & we could be in for a lot of pain & uncertainty.

You usually are quite fair, but that last post is very poorly argued. No one claims Tanner et al are already first team players or nailed on internationals so why suggest it ? They are talented players who have impressed some knowledgeable people and look like they have what it takes to succeed . Of course they still have much to do.

As for the players who have progressed from the Academy, the point is CURRENTLY we have half a team. It's irrelevant if they were not all the same age. Tanner and Kuhl are not the same age.... If you add HRK, Hector and Taylor to your rather truncated list then we have 7 players in first team contention who have come through the youth ranks without considering those who are probably a year off being ready.

Terminal Boardom
Ian Royal It may have escaped you notice TB, but we aren't Chelsea, we don't have an Abramovich owner, nor are we likely to ever get one and trying to emulate their 'spend spend spend' philosophy won't work for us.

We've already seen what happens when you gamble on (comparative) big wage, big reputation players. That's why we're in this mess.

I don't think I said we were Chelsea. All I did was pick up on what WR said about long termism which, quite frankly, is laughable unless the definition of long term is around 6 months considering the number of managers getting the boot each season.

Yes, because we've got a reputation of short termism with managers. It's not like we had Pardew for 3 seasons, and didn't sack him. Or Coppell for six seasons and didn't sack him. Or Mcdermott for most of three and a half seasons. We are one of very few clubs outside the PL that has a top class academy and regularly bring players from it into the first team. We're one of few clubs that, bar a year under Anton, try for steady growth and living within our means. Trying to rubbish the idea that we take a longer term view rarher than just focusing on the next season is stupid.

Victor Meldrew In reply to Ian.
From the previous season QPR came down with us and have gone back up.
Wigan who also came down with us lost half of their players and their manager and finished 5th.
We kept all (?) our players and finished below both of the other relegated clubs.
Yes, I think it was a disgrace that we finished 30 points below the top club with the advantage of a parachute payment and retaining the players from the Premier League season and of course all clubs get injuries.

Great, one year sample size.

once again prooving why there's no point reading your blaterings if you think last season was a disgrace. We'd be better off without people like you.

Have to say Ian that is out of order. Victor is pretty good usually, we both may disagree with a couple of his recent comments but you are wrong to get on your high horse in that way.

That makes the wholly questionable assumption that because all three went down in the same season, all three had equally talented squads.

It also ignores the point that wigan finished a massive 2 points ahead of us, and the fact that Leicester have no doubt spent far more than us in recent years.

Or the fact that our parachute payment largely went on paying the salaries of championship standard players who received pay rises way beyond their ability, on the back of a short-lived promotion.

We had a decent squad, but it was nothing special. 7th was about right, however entitled to premier league football some feel they have become.

+1 Absolutely on the money there. I will be forever scratching my head wondering how the fcuk we won the league in 2012. We weren't even the 3rd best team in the league that season - Saints, WHU & Brum were all infinitely better than us.

Before I get the stock "the table doesn't lie" response...you all know we were fcuking jammy. It was like divine intervention in some of those games towards the end of the season.

Really? You carry on in the delusional negative vein. I, in the meantime, will deal in fact. Over a season we were the second strongest team in the league. The results say so and this is a results based game.

Adkins confirming on BBCRB that he has had a meeting with members of the consortium

Says there are a lot of figures in the consortium but he sounded confident of now being able to add to the squad before the end of the month

Over 46 games, you finish pretty much where you deserve and on the whole you make your own luck. There's certainly an argument for fortune being able to tip the balance in your favour where you're talking about a fine margin and that's what happened for us.

We had the best spirit in the league and in the end that paid dividends for us and we topped it. Saints and West Ham were arguably better teams, but when it came to it their spirit was found lacking and they failed to do what was necessary to finish above us. Over the season though, we were one of the best three teams in the division and we got the breaks that saw us come out top of those three, perhaps a little underservingly given the quality of our play.

Birmingham finished 10 points off West Ham. They simply weren't up to the level of the top three. You don't have a margin of 13 points between you and a team below you if they were better than you. You might manage a handful, but that's huge.

I was addressing your earlier point, that just happened to be the conveniently last post.

I'm afraid I'm not falling for you obscuring what you're getting called on just because someone can't get where we actually finished right.
