SIGNED - Anton Ferdinand

by DaveBanana » 02 Aug 2014 17:10

This could have some legs - there was the lazy journalism aspect to it in that he'd signed for Police United (owned by Samrit) but has since come out that they missed the deadline to register him, and he's been seen in the Directors lounge during the Swansea game today.

Compared to the current crop, he looks like Cannavaro so bring it on.

Signing this guy just about sums up the state of our squad.

No. It doesn't.

No more than signing any player does.

Good experienced pro to help bring on the likes of morrison and hector, excellent signing.

Follow him up with gary o neil and ameobi and weve suddenly got a very strong spine in the team.

Not good enough for any club in England he has to go to a team in Thailand who no one had heard of until a month or so ago but a good signing for RFC I see the logic

Obviously not as good as his brother but he would do a decent job in the Championship.

Never really seemed to get his head together after the racist incident with John Terry.

You can never have too many centre-backs. Would do a decent job at this level probably. As long as Nigel is in favour of him coming in and he isn't on excessive money relative to the rest of the squad then it's probably a decent signing.

Can anyone elaborate on this registration deadline that was missed?
Is it like the PL 25-man squad where you can register him later in the season? Or is it that signing was never registered with the Thai FA/League?
I would guess if it's the former then we'd be loaning him, if the latter then we'd be signing him permanently?

Adkins very coy on Anton Ferdinand as you would expect. Didn't really want to discuss it but said, 'we'll see what happens' #readingfc

Can't say the prospect of Anton Ferdinand makes me very happy. Pearce, Morrison, Hector, Sweeney and Cooper is fine for now IMO. I'd rather we were looking at other positions.

I don't really rate him though, perhaps a little unfairly.

If that's correct it looks like Ferdinand won't be allowed to play for Police United in their current season. I think the Thai Premier League is played from March to October so the first league match Ferdinand can play for them would be in March. Despite the fact that Samrit says in that article that he'll stay and train with them it might well be that all parties may think it better he goes off and plays somewhere in the meantime.

He's coming then. SJM also suggested the Thai's may put money into the quad before the FL sign off on the takeover.

Could well see this Spanish LB, Ferdinand and Sharp all come in on free's. Not bad really if it happens.

Why you still obsessed with Sharp ?? Average championship forward at best. Didn't set the world alight on his loan move with us.

He's available, presumably free, wages won't cost the earth, low gamble rating as Adkins knows him well and he's decent enough for this level. We'll do well to find better without spending significantly more.
