I would be very happy with Cox coming back based on the fact we could be starting 6-7 academy players every game next season (Mcarthy, Obita, Pearce, Karacan, Hrk, Cox) and I just like the sound of that. Not necessarily a good team but I like the fact its alot of home grown players.

Nice sentiments...I agree 100%

But....forever, long-term British football upstaged by the Premier imports

Next all we have to do is reduce the excessive spending on the clap banners and that's the financial fairplay rule taken care of too.

Can't help but feel it's cheating if the Academy product left then came back about 5 seasons later.

It counts when Gylfi returns though, right?

Gylfi coming back transcends Academy issues.

Put him back in the Academy for a few matches to hone the skills he has lost then before reintroducing him to the first team :D

Gylfi is the exception to all normal rules!

We sold him for £200k and buying him back for £600k, great business. I always liked him as a player and his game against Spurs in the cup he was on fire - we should never have let him go in the first place imo, as I stated at the time. Whether he can now still do a job for us, I'm not so sure.

Forest press claiming he's having a second medical today and Mackie bunged a lift down with him to complete a season loan. Happy with both!

Look. He was clearly down the pecking order and needed games.

Best for him and the club when he left.

Timing was just bad. He should have been born earlier or later.

HTH.

You conveniently forget that we got and additional £600k in sell-on fees when Swindon sold him to West Brom. That kind of puts us £200k up on the deal plus we get him back (not that you can really square the finances that way, but you get the point).

And Forest look likely to replace him (or Mackie) with one Michael Antonio. A fee of £3m has been mentioned and RFC have a sell on clause of 25% apparently from when the said Antonio finally left the MadStad for SWFC having failed after many years to establish himself as a regular RFC first-teamer. I can't remember how much we got from the Owls for Antonio but it looks as it the 25% sell on could cover most of the transfer fee for Cox!

Good business those sell-on clauses!

Tbf, we have got money for his transfers since then. Edit - been beaten to it there! Find this all a bit strange tbh, only a few months ago I was looking at a thread from 2009 in R&G when he moved to WBA (tried to sign him in the old CM game i'd just bought and Swindon didn't want to sell to a rival  ), didn't imagine we would then possibly be on the verge of signing him a few months later back in real life!

For all the mention of Cox being an Adkins signing, this has got Hammond written all over it, we've been linked with him before. Anyway would be delighted if it goes through, good number of goals and assists at Championship level (22 goals + 21 assists in 103 games) and the coming home factor too. Surprised at the reaction on here, how times have changed! Can see him playing in a 2 alongside Pog or as the No 10 in a 4-2-3-1. That No 10 role is there for someone to make their own this season, can also play out wide too.

Pleased if we get Mackie on loan, not sure how much quality he actually has (but not saying it's bad and haven't seen him that much) but a hard worker and I could see him fitting in well here.

never watched Mackie much but always had him down as your classic hard working headless chicken type.

Thick pundits will all praise his 'great engine' and solid work rate while ignoring that when he gets in a good position he more often than not spoons it into the crowd or makes a terrible choice in passing

Think he's better than that. His movement is very sharp and he's quick and powerful. Probably lacks a bit of technique, but if he had that he wouldn't be joining us.
