Pepe the Horseman Completely different players, and Mackie doesn't turn up to training drunk, afaik.

Leaving aside the possible libel, I believe 'God' often turned up to training and matches under the influence of alcohol and other things! Even given how different professional football is now, I suspect he would have still scored plenty of goals if he caught a time machine to the present!

Hoop Blah
RoyalBlue So Forest are happy to let Mackie go but are reportedly set to spend £1.5M on Antonio.

Am I right in thinking that Antonio actually has a much better scoring rate than Mackie?

They're pretty much scoring at the same rate in the Championship.

If the stats I have seen are correct, Mackie's games per goal stats throughout his career haven't been particularly impressive. Antonio's are better, albeit a lot of goals were scored at a lower level.

is mackie primarily a striker or a winger? if he is mainly a winger his strike rate is pretty good, but probably not good enough for an out and out striker. i honestly havent seen enough of him to make a assessment of his quality.

He's what you might term an 'inside forward'. Without drawing any comparisons between the their ability, he could play a similar role to the one Lallana did for Southampton. I can see why we're are being linked with the players we are, they all fit in with Adkins preferred system of play.

Big Ern Seems people rate Mackie which is encouraging, however I have never seen him play so can't make any judgement on his playing ability.

My only concern would be why Forrest are prepared to loan out a player they signed for £1million only a year ago?

Big Ern Well happy to be proved wrong, just a fairly obvious doubt many would have.

You may well be proven right but he's been popular with the fans at every club he's played at which is usually a decent gauge of a player's worth

#nffc expect to sign a striker tomorrow. Deal close to being completed. Very likely to be Britt Assombalonga. Which would be very impressive

Funded by the sale of Lansbury to Burnley for 3.5m. Sideways movement for Forest.

I'm pretty sure he played behind the main striker at QPR during his time under Warnock when QPR went up. IIR he scored somewhere around the 20 goal mark that season.

10, I think. But he did break his leg half way through the season. Or something like that.

He did a half decent job scoring 7 in the Premiership the following season IIRC, especially considering 'Arry came in and bought 20 strikers in the January window

Assombalonga a has had one good season in the Championship where he scored 22 or 23 goals, the rest were in the cup. The fee is way OTT.

The way it goes these days. I reckon he'll score more in the Championship than Cox and Mackie.....combined.

He's never scored in the championship... Only made 4 appearances in the champ (for Watford) before going out to non league on loan*. 5.5M is a cracking bit of business for Barry Fry.

Could be another Jordan Rhodes, but could equally be a Nick Blackman.

* Wikipedia ftw.

the facts are facts....goal scorers in this league cost millions now, you rarely pick up a proven goal scorer for less than say 2 million. its the ways the markets are changing. think of McCormack from leeds or if ever Rhodes left Blackburn and the fee that would be involved. If we got Mackie and cox for less than £1.5m and both waded in with 10+ goals for the season I would consider that a very good bit of business indeed.

Rated Jamie Mackie when he was at Plymouth and wanted RFC to sign him.

I am not sure now following his injury a couple of season ago.

I think he will play wide right until McCleary is fit.
