Sans

That's a lot of words. , some I might agree with, some not .
However the point was not 'what are our players worth', it was that despite predictions earlier in the summer we have not been forced to flog off our assets

That's a simple fact, and had we been in need we would have found buyers for a number of players, although we'd have had to settle for what we could get

Some of your comments are valid, just not in this context

Zana Badawi
Royal Biscuitman Maybe the deep pockets comment was also aimed at the clubs creditors......

Maybe it was aimed at the Football League assessors; or simply at cynical journalists.

Given that we've just come out of a rough part ownership deal; and now the word 'partnership' has suddenly be added to the journalistic lingo surrounding this affair; I think we have every right to view this with suspicious until our new partners prove themselves. It currently appears another step in SJM's desperate need to get rid of the club. Sort of.

I think he's trying to get out with his cash and his reputation with the public intact as he doesn't want to be on the receiving end of the abuse Anton gets round these parts.

Except Anton's not been round these parts since August to take his abuse like a man

Something is only worth something if someone wants and is prepared to buy it. Who's to say that actually no-one has been sniffing around what there is of the squad - with the exception of Cardiff who snapped up ALF as soon as they could? Could it be that the Club was confident in securing a buyer for the club and refused to entertain any offers? Don't forget either that clubs are being a lot more careful with their finances. Even Forest have had to sell a couple of their "rising stars" much to the annoyance of Stuart Pearce.

The problem for Reading as I see it is that there are players on top money who are not delivering where it matters and while that continues, there will not be much that can be done until their contracts run out or some clever work behind the scenes takes place to get them off the wage bill.

I would have thought someone would pay £2-3m for Pog.

If we let him go on a free, even though a new club may not match his current wages, I'd have thought that a Golden Hello of £2-3m would mean he covers whatever wage shortfall he might have over the period of a contract.

Nobody likes selling an asset for nothing but if we really want to get him off the payroll then I'm sure it could be done. He has no value on the Balance Sheet as nothing was paid for him, so it wouldn't have any real or cosmetic impact in the short term, but it would reduce the overhead.

Just a thought. Same applies with Drenthe I suppose.

I like his enthusiasm but it would be a miracle to go up this season, no new signings as of yet, even with ones coming in soon they won't have had time to integrate with the team and could face a slow start, even strengthening in January probably won't be enough. If he really is dedicated to getting us to the Premier League then I can see promotion being a 2-3 season thing but we shall see!

Even if we sign Mackie and Cox, Pog will remain by far and away the best striker we have on our books - foolish to let him go unless we have signed someone significantly better than him.

The thing is with this league, you can be 14th for most of the season, but if you find some form in the last 15 games, you can go up via the play-offs. We have every chance of going up this season, it's just going to be a very up and down season, and we have to hope we can scrape a play-off place and cause a surprise.
