Looking at the league table, there's a few to be worried about, however I don't think anyone will storm the league to the extent of 106/107 even

I make it 45 of the 72 to play so far are already out of the 13 wins challenge. And at least 10 of the remaining PL 20 will fall at their first game.

Fulham, Brighton, Norwich and Rotherham currently matching the 106 form in the Championship.

I never understand why this record is something that the fans want to protect? We aren't gonna do it again are we? So what if another team beats it? It doesn't make us any worse or better at football in the present does it?

It's not as if any of the remaining team are members of the record breakers either. I'm pretty sure none of them give a monkeys.

A team of our historical standing doesn't have a lot to shout about though really does it? We don't have any Premier League/First Division titles and no European trophies. Prior to the two recent Championship titles, we had a couple of third and fourth tier titles and a (now defunct) cup win that only ran for three years. Most clubs up and down the land have won the third and fourth tier at least once, so it's not really something to use to distinguish ourselves.

But claiming the record points haul for winning the second tier is probably the greatest acheivement in the club's history, and if you can't celebrate that, then what can you celebrate? Villa and Forest still sing about winning the European Cup, yet they happened before any of the current players were born, should they not celebrate that?

For well over 100 years, our club was synonymous with mediocrity.
The 106 song is an excellent come back whae other clubs' fans taunt us with this.
I can remember that song instantly shut up 2500 cocky Geordies in the south stand a few years ago

The 13 in a row gave the club national exposure in an era where there was no live league football, the highlights programmes would, between them, feature 6 out of 46 games each week and the newspapers didn't even have match reports for all the games in the top flight let alone anything below Division 2 on a Sunday morning. It was a very big deal for the club at the time and meant a hell of a lot to the supporters.

As for the 106 season, aside from the academy graduates, many of whom would have been at the club at the time, it's a big element of what defines us as a club as of now. How many of our current squad would be here now if we were perennial Championship also rans? It's still a league record, it will eventually be bettered but, until then, it is one thing we have achieved that no other club has, no matter how big or small.
