mmmmm.....(Ian)

based on that (edit..........your post before last), so why the release of McAnuff and/or Legs

Or are we relying on the likes of Guthrie as mentor to the youngsters? lol

I know, the answer is Karacan

Because at the time we had no money and no owner and they weren't cost effective players to offer contracts to. Had the Thais come in six months sooner, we may not have seen all them leave. But even so, you do need a turn over of players to bring freshen the place up a bit.

And of course, I believe they're all older than Mackie, Cox and Ferdinand anyway.

Yes

and

Yes,

and

Yes

they are both older, but at least one of them knew a thing or two about "the Reading way"

Mackie, Ferdy and to a lesser degree Cox know nothing....but as you imply, a "freshen-up" may be the gamble that works.

Mackie strikes me as an exceptionally Reading way player. Cox went all the way through our academy and made a first team appearance.

Ferdinand? er.... fair cop.

Surely any club will not allow a player to speak to another club, unless they have already agreed that the player is available and any fee that might be involved, has also already been agreed.

Just shows how dim footballers can be doesn't it.

I'm sure Adkins can get an experienced replacement and probably a good one quite quickly. The only thing that might be a problem is fitness levels, of course, al la Ferdinand. So Hector can cover at centre back for a few weeks.

How about this one for a replacement.
Sean St Ledger, is a professional footballer who plays as a defender. He is currently a free agent after being released by Leicester City and he is currently in the Republic of Ireland national team. Made 36 appearances for Leicester last season. Age 29, a pretty good age for a Centre Back IMHO.

This reminds me of Matt Mills.

Whatever happened to him?

Ian Royal there'll be more entering the U18s this season, but they're probably a bit too young to consider even remotely.

You're a fan of Rob Dickie, right? Marc Ethelston will fill that hole in your heart.

Why are people making out Adkins has hounded him out?!

Just ridiculous. I also heard what Adkins said at that time & he didn't have a pop at him at all. It was pretty much what Ian wrote earlier + something along the lines of "Morro was so keen to close play down & get the ball back that he's created a bit of space and we've not dealt with it".

He was perfectly calm & reasonable. Stop making out otherwise - I can smell your anti Adkins nonsense through the screen..

Would have preferred him to Ferdinand.

As has been alluded to already, I think he will be more of a loss as a popular and commanding member of the squad than for his football ability. Certainly a shame, but we don't know what the offer is. It does strike me as a bit of a sideways step gamble, I just can't believe that Cardiff will go back up that quickly? And on the upside it means a potential extra signing for us; I've got a flavour for it since last week!

I have zero issue with Adkins ripping that squad to pieces & starting again. The back 4 is not right & hasn't been for some time.

You can blame management for some of it I guess, but sometimes the players just aren't good enough. Pearce & Morrison together does not work & right now Pearce>>>>>Morrison.

I reckon Morrison will regret this move you know. Going for £££ & I suspect Cardiff fans will very quickly see after 20 games or so that he isn't that good.

The odd set piece goal from him is a massive plus of course, but defensively he is pretty ropey.

Wish him luck though. £3m is a great bit of business if true. Bloody good on our part!

if we can get st ledger in and morro out for 3-4m that would be a fantastic bit of business! then we can spend the money on that lad from nice!

I remember the last time a centre back moved from us to a Championship rival supposedly to a more likely prospect of promotion, and immediately after play off heartbreak ... now I am not superstitious but ... :D
