Yeh same. Was getting quite frustrated, but they both do it.

Was shouting really loudly (okay as loud as I can..) from my corner of the north stand "oxf*rd KICK IT" considering i'm surrounded by kids (including my nephew) I'm sure those around me love my advice to the players.

I thought Feds was more likely to be penalised for holding the ball too long than handling outside his area. But then again, no one seems to bother enforcing this rule either.

By the way (and apologies if anyone else has made this point), they are not "goal kicks," they are drop kicks. Goal kicks take place in the 6 yard box with a dead ball. And the penalty for a goalkeeper taking a drop kick outside the penalty area is a free kick, not a penalty (Royal Ginger spotted that and made a beautifully understated response).

Much like Tuesday night against Newport I thought our performance was pretty average at best against Ipswich and we just didn't threaten enough going forward. For me that's down to the weakness we have in midfield at the moment due to the injuries and being one or two players short in that department.

Having said that we worked hard and defended well and never really looked like losing against a decent Championship side who I'd imagine will end up in the top half. That's pretty promising considering the players we're missing.

As pretty much every else has said Hector slotted in nicely alongside Pearce at the back. I wouldn't say he was quite as outstanding as some have made out but he was tidy and strong enough and I think his composure on the ball will help us long term if he continues to improve. It's difficult to measure on one performance against a big, and at times direct, side like Ipswich but I think he needs to become a little more dominant and mark a little tighter at times, but it was still a good and promising performance.

As for Federici's distribution, well I don't think he has much to shout about over and above McCarthy. It's different circumstances of course but McCarthy used the ball a lot quicker and a accurately from his hands on Tuesday and started a lot of play with throws whereas Federici seemed to be kicking a lot more (perhaps tactical or just a product of the opposition). The one thing Federici does have that McCarthy doesn't is being comfortable on the ball when it's played back to his feet. There's no doubt he's stronger in that sense and it's possibly why he's got the shirt now.

my positive view of the game was definitely coloured by my expectations when looking at the team sheet.
and hectors performance definitely coloured by the fact he is a kid

I'm all for our youth products getting more of a break than others but it's interesting that we see Hector as such a kid when he's only (I think) a year younger than Adie Williams was when we lost to Bolton at Wembley.

Hopefully he gets a really good run in the side now and takes his chance with both hands.

Luckily he was correct in his assumption.

And it's not a drop kick, that is a rugby term. I don't think there is an official term in the laws for it.
