Best starting 11 when all fit?

by Basingstoke Royal » 20 Aug 2014 00:09

It would be a nice problem for adkins to have but who would you start if everyone is fit in the current squad?

Federici

Gunter Hector Pearce Obita

Williams karacan kuhl

Mcleary Cox

Pog

I would pick (not necessarily the "best" XI):

-------------Federici-------------
Gunter--Hector--Pearce--Obita
----------------Kuhl---------------
-------Guthrie------Williams-----
Blackman---------------McCleary
-----------Pogrebnyak------------

Subs: McCarthy, Cooper, Kelly/Cummings, Karacan, Mackie, HRK, Cox

It's hard to leave out Karacan from the XI, and Mackie and McCarthy would both be in a genuinely "best" XI. Strong argument for an attacking midfielder (Cox is the "best" but I'd most like to see Tanner) but I think that side provides enough support to Pog.

-------------------Either*-----------------
Gunter---Hector---Pearce---Obita
------------Guthrie---Williams---------
McCleary--------------------Blackman
--------------------Cox--------------------
--------------Pogrebnyak---------------

Subs: Other Keeper, Cummings, Ferdinand, Karacan, Kuhl, Mackie, Tanner

*Keepers to be rotated dependent on the opposition and their style.

Blackman's done a lot to repair the damage he'd done with a season and a half of poor football in pre-season. With everyone fit and if we're about to sign Norwood we'd almost have too many quality midfielders which suggests to me that at least one of them has a more chronic injury then we've as yet been lead to believe. The injury migrating up and down Guthrie's leg is quite worrying.

At least we're all agreed about the back four!

Right now I would say:

-------------Federici-------------
Gunter--Hector--Pearce--Obita
----------------Karacan---------------
-------Guthrie------Williams-------
McCleary-----------------------HRK
-------------Pogrebnyak------------

Haven't seen enough of Cox and Mackie yet to decide whether they should be included.

But surely you've seen enough of HRK?

--------------Federici-----------

Gunter--Pearce---Ferdinand---Obita

--------------Hector------------------

-------Guthrie-------Williams-------

McCleary -----------------------HRK

--------------Cox---------------------

If we buy a decent DM at some point then i'd have Hector at CB instead of Pearce.

Taylor wouldn't be anywhere near my preferred starting eleven. Swap him for Williams/Norwood/Kuhl/Guthrie

Blackman over HRK anyday. Blackman up front would solve our lack of pace up there too

If we had a crucial one off game I would favour experience and go for
Federici
Gunter Pearce Ferdinand Obita
McCleary Williams Karacan Mackie
Cox
Pog

I didn't consider Norwood.

Chose Ferdinand purely on his experience. Harsh on Hector but I'd like to see more of him in away games when the going gets tougher. He has a great chance on Saturday to make me change my mind.

Thought Kuhl was excellent yesterday but cannot pick him above Jem and Danny based on that and again he has yet to have the chance to show whether he can perform away from home.

Cox hasn't impressed me yet but if we're going to play a system with a deeper lying attacker then again I've gone for his experience.

I hope in a month or so if I repeat the exercise I will be choosing Hector, Kuhl and Tanner.
