sandman Not sure Kuhl or anyone can do much with such an undercooked pass as Hector made last night.

Some players are just used to, and can cope with receiving the ball in those areas. It's natural to Kuhl in a way it isn't to Akpan but if the manager is instructing his centre halves to play from the back then every player has to be comfortable in receiving the ball in tight areas as you can bet your life every team will try and squeeze that space as Huddersfield did last night.

Don't get me wrong it was a piss poor execution of the pass (Hector knew it which is why he instantly pointed to where he wanted Akpan to play it) but players natural in that position often have to deal with it. Akpan isn't one of those. Kuhl and hopefully Norwood are

typical reading scapegoating to blame akpan for that goal - he was given an awful pass and no chance to do anything with it.

also typical reading fans elevating a youngster to god level on the basis of one half against a team that was sitting back and soaking up pressure.

kuhl will hopefully go on to be an outstanding player for us, but anyone heralding him as the saviour of our midfield on the back of last night needs to take a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror.

winchester_royal Don't think so. Kuhl recycles the ball, keeps the game moving, dictates the tempo. Norwood sounds like the type of player that is more likely to pick a 40 yard through ball and create chances.

Dillon got it spot on imo on BBCRB after the game. Kuhl isn't going to make the pass that creates the chance. He'll make the pass that creates the pass that creates the chance.

Not spot on. Pretty sure Kuhl set up a couple of chances last night, one from a 30/40yard ball that Tanner brought down on his chest and got in behind the full back. A couple of nice passes into teammates feet in the box also.

It was the wrong decision by Hector, but Akpan should have dealt with it, first time pass back to the keeper would have been fine.

Exactly my point. :|

He'll play the pass that gets the winger in behind the full back, or the pass that finds players in and around the box, passes that will lead to an opportunity at some point in that phase of play, but he's not going to play defence splitting passes every 10 mins. Nor is he the type to drive from midfield and open up space running with the ball.

He's a really exciting prospect, a fantastic midfield player, but he's not going to open up defences on his own, and from what I've seen/read he's not an identical player to Norwood. Which is where this discussion started..

strap Norwood is one-paced and NOT a box to box type. He will sit in front of the back 4, accept passes out from the back and then spray balls forward to wings and channels. Will get forward only when the pace of the game allows. So clearly an Adkins type.

Make the names in those descriptions the same and you could very easily be describing one player. Sounds like Norwood would be redundant with Kuhl and Guthrie already around.

Cape Town Royal Kuhl and Karacan that's two K's if we can find another midfielder whose surname starts with the letter 'K' we could become the single most supported club in the Deep South of America!!

Kelly could complement them well.

£1.5m for Oliver Norwood is, in a different way, as extraordinary as Leeds getting £11m for McCormack, good luck Reading...

How does he work that out?

£1.5m isn't that much, for a 23 year old who was on the books at Man Utd. He's got the potential - in 3 years time we'll be selling him to someone like Cardiff for £4m+

The fact they don't rate him probably says more about their coaching/management/style of football - than it does about the player himself

Cause he's telling himself exactly what Reading fans did when Morrison left (he's just far more deluded)... when it's about your club you're always going to be biased one way or the other hence the anger with Morrison, despite the fact we don't know what actually happened.

Scratch that, he's just a oxf*rd retard.

She's certainly got a mouthful of teeth there!

BTW, saw Guthrie yesterday, just walking to game from car park - he was right pissed off at the cheek of my step sons asking for a photo - didn't even smile in the pic - wonder if he's off?

he could have been just having a bad day...no need to assume it was due to footballing reasons at all.

Always admired your positivity on here USA LR, but to me it just seems like Guthrie wants out, he has the quality undoubtedly but he's never shown that he's really wanted to be here imo.

fair enough, if he wants out we should allow him to leave then, no use letting him disrupt the dressing room. norwood seems to be the same type of player but with a lot of potential and the better years ahead of him!
