MouldyRoyal I had a trucker's cap in my first year of university when my hair was long-ish. I looked quite dashing I don't mind admitting.

MmmMonsterMunchstrap Does seem as though McCarthy's career has stalled a bit. £3M plus a sell-on would be pretty good business, as he is hardly likely to re-sign for us when his contract expires next summer.
The other interesting thing for me will be to see just how good Mikkel Andersen is. He's had 95 career starts on loan since 2008 and has yet to even get a sub app for us, yet he's still here. Someone must rate him. McCarthy has about 140-odd starts, and at 24 is almost exactly a year younger than MA, so we may well have a ready made replacement of, arguably, similar quality?
I don't think his career has stalled at all. He is an outstanding future England keeper & the only reason he isn't playing now is because of the club knowing he is going to be sold. All this stuff about his distribution is nit picking at best - he is one of the best shot stoppers I've ever seen & QPR are getting an absolute steal at £3m.

It is no longer acceptable for top keepers to be great shot stoppers alone. They have to be really comfortable with the ball at their feet and when distrubuting from their hands. That is the reason why McCarthy will not play a proper game for England unless he improves dramatically in that area.
It is by no means nit picking to highlight the fact that he is like a rabbit in headlights when the ball is passed back to him and that he far too often gets nowhere near his intended target with his kicks and sometimes even his throws. Personally I think it is nonsense to suggest the only reason he isn't playing now is that the club know he is going to be sold (unless they don't want to remind potential buyers how poor his distribution is!). I would wager that if he is not sold this window, Feds will still remain first choice keeper. He is so much better with the ball at his feet and you can see that in the way that his defenders seem far happier to pass the ball back to him, even when there is a risk of him being closed down (it happened a couple of times on Tuesday and Feds quickly and calmly controlled the ball, moved it away from immediate danger and passed it back out to one of his teammates - I doubt anyone had their heart in their mouths, which wouldn't have been the case if the ball had been heading back to McCarthy in a similar situation).
At £3M plus add ons, it will be us who is getting the better side of the deal.

Only if those add ons are really substantial. If we don't double that fee then we'll look like fools in a few years.
As a comparison, the less experienced, less proven Jack Butland moved for £3.3m a few years ago. Not only has the market inflated significantly since then, but Butland's distribution is a lot worse than McCarthy's.
We should be aiming for closer to the Fraser Forster fee than the Butland fee. I don't think we can get £7m, but that would be the limit of us getting "the better side of the deal".
I think McCarthy's deficiencies in distribution are hugely exaggerated by people who have bones to pick. He doesn't need to be Valdes or Neuer. His pass completion rate in the PL (and the Championship last season for that matter) was comparable to Hugo Lloris at Spurs, about 45%. Courtois and Hart hit about 51%; Neuer 90%. The difference between McCarthy and a "top four" goalkeeper is much smaller than the top four goalkeepers and the best in the world! And let's face it, Neuer would have a lower percentage if he was kicking long to Pogrebnyak and Le Fondre...
Source for the world class guys, underlying stats from WhoScored. I looked up McCarthy on WhoScored manually.

Royal LadyIan RoyalI'm assuming this is a joke, even you aren't daft enough to genuinely think that a dodgy transfer rumour is a better explanation for why someone didn't play Saturday, but will play today. Surely.Royal Lady McCarthy linked in move to Liverpool - more likely why he didn't play on Saturday than the Adkins preferred Feds reason....
May not be going to Liverpool but I think it's clear Feds is playing because McCarthy is almost certainly off this window... eh Ian?

He wanted to leave last summer. He wants to leave this summer. He wont sign a new deal when he wants Premier League football and he knows there is Premier League interest. We wont let him leave for free when there is significant value in him. He'll be gone by deadline.

He came back from the summer break with his body fat percentage up, and Feds came back in much improved physical shape than before. Because of that, Feds got the nod.

Shows how unprofessional he has become. "Stardom" has gone to his head and he's swanning around with z-listers and designing jewellery rather than concentrating on his football.

Federici has also proven during his tenure at the club that he is unprofessional.
