Goal keeper for QPR after last night . maybe willing to spend at least 5 mil .£3 Mil is a joke. unless the sell on clause is a big one, plus appearances for England is included.

Just leaving Hogwood. McCarthy was saying his goodbyes. He's off to #QPR now to tie up his move #readingfc

What's that, John? McCarthy money won't clear in time to be spent this window?

Lol

Gutted. Lol at those even trying to seriously suggest Fed was given the nod over AM because of ability.

Actually more upset than I thought I would be. The squad is so lacking in quality. Worst squad for well over a decade and it's hard to believe we were in the Prem 2 seasons ago.

Ah well it is what it is. Chin up I suppose....

I think 'well over a decade' is pushing it a little bit! Mind you, I'd kill to have Wdowcyk, Gilks, Osborn, Gooding and Quinn, or Shorey, Ingimarsson, Sidwell, Little and Kitson in their prime, in this squad.

You do realise that your LOL might also apply to Bibbo and Adkins?

He might have been given the nod because of his ability against their and the team's requirements re desired style of play. Anyone who seriously suggests that McCarthy's ability on the ball/distribution is anywhere near as good as Feds either has difficulty with their vision or is deluded (and that might include Harry's dog!). McCarthy may have the edge of shot-stopping (and certainly did when Feds went through his bad patch) but I really don't think the difference there is as great as some like to portray. Feds has made some pretty good saves in the past couple of games and used to when he was first choice keeper before his bad spell.

Nothing against McCarthy but this is probably a good deal for the club, provided the funds can be released to Adkins. Good Luck to McCarthy too - he will probably need it where he is going! Will he turn out to be the PL and International Star many predict? I'm not sure for the reasons I have stated previously.

Talk about hyping them with faint criticism.

Alex is 75% as good at distribution vs. Feds
Feds is 75% as good at shot stopping vs. Alex

£2m for a player who doesn't decrease the quality of the first 11 is free money as far as I'm concerned.

£2m with sell on and England performances would be about right/good business for A-Mac. Why do the Daily Mail etc keep quoting £6m?

Everywhere except Sky seems to be reporting around £3m and a hefty sell on clause.

Not bad business tbf.

Anyone putting up a poll on this move?

I would rather we had done what we did with Sidwell and play McCarthy as our No1. letting him go for free at the end if he still wished to go.

Being better at shot stopping is preferable to being better at distribution.

What would be the point in that? Sidwell had the ability to stop us getting relegated, as seen when we got relegated in the 2nd season.
With or without McCarthy we are likely to be midtable mediocrity. Take the money.

Dry your eyes m8.

More shots to save if your distribution is poor.

We had no one offering us money for Sidwell.

That is very debatable at best. Not many of McCarthy's errors lead to the ball even ending up with the opposition in attacking areas, and the ones that do don't result in shots, and even then the shots may not be on target. I doubt you could come up with a list of more than a couple where an error by McCarthy with his kicking or throwing has directly lead to him having to make a save. However he's made dozens of saves that would otherwise have been goals.
