Blue&White Mage Anyone putting up a poll on this move?

I would rather we had done what we did with Sidwell and play McCarthy as our No1. letting him go for free at the end if he still wished to go.

Being better at shot stopping is preferable to being better at distribution.

Dry your eyes m8.

More shots to save if your distribution is poor.

That is very debatable at best. Not many of McCarthy's errors lead to the ball even ending up with the opposition in attacking areas, and the ones that do don't result in shots, and even then the shots may not be on target. I doubt you could come up with a list of more than a couple where an error by McCarthy with his kicking or throwing has directly lead to him having to make a save. However he's made dozens of saves that would otherwise have been goals.

Sheff Wed away? Only that didnt result in saves, it resulted in goals

From the Times, hopefully bumped fee up

'Juventus, Liverpool and Tottenham made late bids for Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, who is set to complete a move to QPR.'

MmmMonsterMunch Gutted. Lol at those even trying to seriously suggest Fed was given the nod over AM because of ability.

You do realise that your LOL might also apply to Bibbo and Adkins?

He might have been given the nod because of his ability against their and the team's requirements re desired style of play. Anyone who seriously suggests that McCarthy's ability on the ball/distribution is anywhere near as good as Feds either has difficulty with their vision or is deluded (and that might include Harry's dog!). McCarthy may have the edge of shot-stopping (and certainly did when Feds went through his bad patch) but I really don't think the difference there is as great as some like to portray. Feds has made some pretty good saves in the past couple of games and used to when he was first choice keeper before his bad spell.

Nothing against McCarthy but this is probably a good deal for the club, provided the funds can be released to Adkins. Good Luck to McCarthy too - he will probably need it where he is going! Will he turn out to be the PL and International Star many predict? I'm not sure for the reasons I have stated previously.

Federici is better with the ball at his feet yes, but I don't buy into this significant difference in 'distribution' any more. McCarthy's kicking from his hands has come on massively since he made his debut and anyone who watched his quick and accurate throwing of the ball against Newport would see he's possibly more comfortable doing that than Federici is these days.

Federici still has the greater ability with the ball at his feet and is more adept at long kicking and sparking counter attacks that way but he also used to come in for all sorts of criticism for kicking it out of play a couple of seasons ago.

There's no doubt in my mind now that Federici has started the season as first choice because it was expected that McCarthy was off.

Great, so desperate were we to ship our best players we probably did ourselves out of a couple of million.

Spose it doesn't matter as the excuses for not re-investing the money are already coming thick and fast RFC style.

Why do you think we've done ourselves out of anything?

Interest from other parties could have jacked the price up. 3m sounds like shit business to me. Especially when you consider the % of that we are likely to spend on much needed players.

Cracking keeper, young, possible future England star, wanted by Juventus and Liverpool, less than 3m?

We really are desperate for money.

Well, it's obvious SJM is still sticking his beak into shit. Literally kicking players out the door and as usual only pennies for Akpan clones made available.

Meanwhile Leeds have made 12 signings. Watch them join the ranks of teams we used to smash, overtaking us.

Last year of contract and it is pretty obvious he doesn't want to sign a new one.

Extended-Phenotype Only club in country that insists on paying in cash and upfront for everything while happy to sell through instalment plans to others buying on credit

Minimising costs and maximising income you mean? Good grief, just imagine the mess football would be in if other clubs did that.
