Vision LOL @ Louis Van Gaal "supercoach" now needing to do a Man City and Chelsea just to be competitive.

That said Di Maria and Falcao (if fit) are immense signings. Rooney might have to get used to playing on the left or not at all.

Why would you make someone your captain, then play them out of position and risk upsetting them?

Much like England, who else was there?

Also a decision taken before he realised the task at hand. He's quickly gone from "I've come to win the title" to "oxf*rd me we're miles away" in a matter of weeks.

Suddenly Moyes' record and performance isn't looking so bad is it.

Even if there's no-one else - it's still not a good move to make someone your skipper and then play them out of position, making them unhappy.

I'd suggest it's an even worse move to not pick your best team just because you don't want to hurt the feelings of the bloke with the armband.

I think RVP has to go for surgery on his knee in the very near future

United have a lot out with injuries at the moment

possible united side with v. persie injuried

de gea
rafael, jones, rojo, shaw
blind, hererra
di maria, rooney, mata
falcao

the only problem is playing mata out of position (again), all together it is a really strong side that should do well in the premier league. the defense is a little light though, blind, hererra, and rojo are all unproven in this league and could easily be flops.

van gaal might oxf*rd up the tactics though and united could be in for another shit season.

i wonder what will happen if united dont get champions league football this season after spending this much? ffp will surely come into affect at some point.

The 1st successful Chelsea team under Jose had at its core Claude Makelele; Man United currently don't have anyone in the squad that can do the job that Makelele did for Chelsea so well, and as such, the superstar forward's aren't going to get enough decent service to be is influential.

It all feels ominous for Man U...it has an air of desperation. Look at the team that thrashed Arsenal 8-2 AWAY a couple of seasons ago:

01 De Gea
03 Evra
04 Jones
06 Evans
12 Smalling
08 Anderson (Giggs - 68' )
17 Nani (Park Ji-sung - 68' )
18 Young
23 Cleverley
10 Rooney
19 Welbeck (Hernandez - 35' )

Most of these players (the ones highlighted) people are now saying are mediocre. Well they weren't so mediocre under Fergie. In fact these players went on to win the PL the following season by some distance. Still, they're rubbish and Fergie was lucky and the rest of the clubs didn't try, blah blah blah.

DDG
Rafael
Rojo/Jones/Smalling/Evans*
Shaw
Herrera
Blind
Carrick
Di Maria
Mata
Rooney
RVP
Falcao

That seems like an alright 15 players to choose a first team from

Anderson, Young, Cleverley are shit
Nani has all the attributes to be world class but has been shit
Jones/Smalling/Evans all have potential but have also been shit (played out of position a lot and never had a run at CB)

United have never had a player like that under Ferguson neither did Arsenal when they were winning things

Really?

I think you will find that a certain Roy Keane did that role at Man United, whilst Patrick Viera did it at Arsenal.

Keane left United about 10 years ago and since then United have won about 5 titles.

Keane, United 1993 - 2005

United league winners - 07, 08, 09, 11, 13

As good and as influential as Keane was, its a myth you need that type of player.

Actually Carrick has played a variation of that role for them over recent years. He may not go flying into tackles like Keane did but if you look at his interception rate over the last few years it's fairly obvious. They also bought Owen Hargreaves to play it as well but that obviously didn't work out.

You're unlikely to see that Makelele role again in it's purest form. He was there to sit in front of the back four, play as almost a fifth defender, spoil and make a simple 5 yard pass to someone more capable. Now it's evolved to making interceptions, picking the ball up from the back four and having a better passing range to create opportunities.

Makele didn't venture over the halfway line and had a real specific job. Keane and Viera were box to box. I know what you're saying though

Yep was thinking of players like Carrick and Busquets (sp?). Don't want to draw conclusions but Utd and Barca have done pretty well
