... tomorrow's NL involving 'local' sides

Saturday 20th Sept

CONF-P
Aldershot Town v Lincoln City FC
Bristol Rovers v Woking

Basingstoke Town v Boreham Wood
Bath City v Eastbourne Borough
Bishops Stortford v Whitehawk
Bromley v Gosport Borough
Chelmsford City v Weston-Super-Mare
Ebbsfleet United v Sutton United
Hemel Hempstead Town v Hayes & Yeading Utd
Maidenhead United v Havant & Waterlooville
Staines Town v Farnborough
Wealdstone v St Albans City

SOUTHP
Burnham v Truro City
Cirencester Town v Chesham United
Dorchester Town v Hungerford Town
Slough Town v Bideford
SOUTH1C
Chalfont St Peter v Rugby Town
Egham Town v North Greenford United
Hanwell Town v Beaconsfield SYCOB
Marlow v Kettering Town
St Ives Town v Godalming Town
Uxbridge v Potters Bar Town
SOUTH1S&W
Clevedon Town v Didcot Town
Evesham United v North Leigh
Wantage Town v Fleet Town

CCLP
Badshot Lea v Colliers Wood United
Cove v Bedfont Sports
Guildford City v Windsor "Guardsmen/Royalists/Scotty The Stags' boys" :? - ought to win at struggling City - though they did get their 2nd win of the term at the Spectrum on Wed night 3-2 vs Baggy Lea. The bar area has even more going for it now - looked far better stocked when I went a couple of weeks back - probably still only bottled/canned stuff though.
Hanworth Villa v Frimley Green
Horley Town v Ashford Town (Middx)
Knaphill v Epsom & Ewell
Spelthorne Sports v Camberley Town
Westfield v Chertsey Town - went to see the 'Curfews' on Wednesday night - can see why they are struggling after relegation last year - thoroughly inept performance saw them go down 0-2 at home to bottom club Knaphill. You'd have found it difficult to comprehend that these were two Pyramid STEPS apart in 13-14. Knappers actually looked quite lively, were well worth their first win and may not be going back down with a whimper.
CCL1
Alton Town v Farleigh Rovers
Bedfont & Feltham v Sandhurst Town
Cobham v AFC Croydon Athletic
Epsom Athletic v Ash United
Eversley & California v Worcester Park
Sheerwater v CB Hounslow United
Staines Lammas v Chessington & Hook United

HELLP
Abingdon United v Wootton Bassett Town
Ascot United v Thatcham Town - could be a big one 3rd v 2nd
Bracknell Town v Kidlington - Robins got a good win over Newbury midweek
Cheltenham Saracens v Thame United
Flackwell Heath v Binfield - watched a very sorry looking 'Moles' side slump 0-2 H v Kiddy last Monday - they don't appear to create much in spite of having Davies and Dickens together up front, both have scored loads at this level recently. Face a tough trip to long time leaders - Heathens involved in quite a few Cup games have slipped back to 7th but currently have 3 games in hand on leaders Highmoor - they managed a win in ET vs Southern Leaguers Wantage midweek - for some reason they have received a bye in the 2nd Qualifying round - presumably someone's been expelled or dropped out after the draw was made - will dig about.
Highmoor Ibis v Brimscombe & Thrupp - H/I two points clear of Thatcham - both big winners away in midweek - Ascot and Bracknell are 3rd & 4th :)
Holyport v Newbury
Milton United v Highworth Town
Oxford City Nomads v Ardley United
Shrivenham v Reading Town RTFC have only 'pointless' Sarries below them now - need a win here to avoid being cut adrift.
HELL1W
Cirencester Town 'Dev' v Letcombe
HELL1E
Brackley Town 'Dev' v Chalfont Wasps
Didcot Town Res v Wokingham & Emmbrook

Finchampstead v Penn & Tylers Green

Old Woodstock Town v Chinnor
Woodley Town v Easington Sports @ Scours Lane RTFC

WESSP
Bournemouth v Whitchurch United
Hamworthy United v Andover Town
Winchester City v Newport (IoW)
WESS1
Fleet Spurs v Ringwood Town

.... bollards - missed edit window ...

My digging about has unearthed that Flackwell get a bye in 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, as they were drawn against the stricken Salisbury City.

As to previously postponed 1st Qualifying tie Round between AFC Kempston & N.Greenford - former have been expelled for using unregistered/ineligible player - NGU will have to play next Tuesday vs the re-instated (Northampton) Sileby Rangers who Kempston bt in the Preliminary Round.

It's early days I know but with Highmoor Ibis winning again today and maintaining their lead at the top of the Hellenic Premier it got me thinking about what would happen if they end up winning the league. Does anyone know if they have ambitions to play in a higher league ? If so, would Palmer Park be accepted into the Southern League ?

Ascot United have also made a good start and are third at the moment. I don't know the rules but the only problem I could foresee with their ground would be the small number of seats. The club as a whole though seems better equipped for promotion if it came to that.

Despite winning today Reading Town clearly don't have to worry about such things this season but weren't they keen on trying to move up a level a few years ago ? Would Scours Lane be accepted if it ever came to possible promotion ? Obviously Wantage were promoted from the Hellenic last season. Anyone know what their ground is like ?

Horley Town 0-4 Ashford Town (Middx)
Knaphill 1-4 Epsom & Ewell
Molesey 1-2 Hartley Wintneynot sure how I missed this off of the preview but quite a surprise win for The Row against usually free-scoring Molesey.
Spelthorne Sports 0-0 Camberley Townfirst points dropped for Spelly this season
Westfield 1-3 Chertsey Townalso a bit of a shock bearing in mind how limp the Curfews were in midweek against formerly bottom club Knaphill.
CCL1
Alton Town 4-0 Farleigh Rovers relegated Alton stun leaders
Bedfont & Feltham 4-3 Sandhurst Town
Cobham 0-1 AFC Croydon Athletic
Epsom Athletic 2-3 Ash United
Eversley & California 1-3 Worcester Park
Sheerwater 4-2 CB Hounslow United
Staines Lammas A-A Chessington & Hook United – basement battle abandoned on 25 mins with C&H 2-0 up – not discovered reason yet.

HELLP
Abingdon United 2-2 Wootton Bassett Town
Ascot United 4-1 Thatcham Town good win for the Yellamen against 2nd placed Thatcham att 99
Bracknell Town 1-2 Kidlington
Cheltenham Saracens 0-2 Thame United – still no points for Sarries
Flackwell Heath 0-3 Binfield - big surprise here against early pacesetters – though perhaps something to do with off the field events. Seemingly the inevitable change at management level, has finally occurred: ex-Sumas boss and long-time ‘Moles’ Assistant Manager and all round nice fellah Roger Herridge now in charge – so gets off to a great start.
Highmoor Ibis 2-0 Brimscombe & Thrupp – H/I keep up the pace at the top but paying crowd only 28
Holyport P-P Newbury apparently water supply issues at Summerleaze
Milton United 0-2 Highworth Town – went to this - not a thriller – Worthians did just enough to keep a fairly punchless Milton at bay – missed a 2nd goal waiting for post H/T Cheeseburger 8)
Oxford City Nomads 2-3 Ardley United
Shrivenham 1-2 Reading Town - important three points for Town to keep in touch at the foot of the table.

- In response to Elmer P's promotion query above:–
- Highmoor/IBIS can’t see how they’ll be allowed up to STEP04, playing at Palmer Pk. I suppose it wouldn’t take all that much - though funding would be an issue - to bring it up to similar standard to Guildford at the Spectrum? They might need to sort out a groundshare (already probably too late for next season) but there's nothing on the horizon that I know about yet?
- Wantage - last years' Champions - Alfredian Park is fully enclosed with seats/barriered surround on all sides and (just) met all necessary Ground Grading criteria once they had erected a large wooden fence down one end of their previously open-ended ground. This held them back for a couple of years as they had to get it passed by the Countryside Commission (or suchlike) as they are designated to be within an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' - with striking views of the rapidly dwindling Diddy Power Station!
- Ascot may well have issues getting their ground graded for STEP4 due to their proximity to the Racecourse. Doubtless 'Brenda/Phil The Greek' may not be too enamoured with a lot of Fencing being erected alongside the Mile Course. Maybe she'd be OK if they had lots of pictures of them or galloping steeds/gambolling Corgis along it. I also think AUFC may need the ability to segregate or provide what is known as '2nd Ingress' - ie another Turnstile - Thatcham got round this clause a few years ago by erecting a set that, to my knowledge, they've never opened. :?
- Binfield - would have similar issues with Ascot re enclosure/segregation and seats.
I have no info yet on applicants for eligibility to promotion for this season - I think clubs have to declare and be inspected by December. Bearing in mind what an unprepossessing dump Stalag Scours is - ironically it probably does tick all the right grading boxes for promotion - so maybe H/I could move in there for 15/16 should they finish in promotion positions. Doubt if Woodley Town would be too chuffed as they have just moved in but I'm sure RTFC would welcome the revenue.
By way of comparison; clubs I'd expect that would probably be OK for Grading, are (obviously) those who've fairly recently dropped down (Thatcham/Bracknell) and others who would need minimal tweaking - Flackwell, Highworth - though they had an issue with an adjacent Cricket pitch - Kidlington and Thame - which is a new build.

HELL1W
Cirencester Town 'Dev' 4-0 Letcombe
HELL1E
Brackley Town 'Dev' 2-2 Chalfont Wasps - att 98 so not bad for a 2nd/3rd string and they are currently top.
Didcot Town Res 1-2 Wokingham & Emmbrook
Finchampstead 3-3 Penn & Tylers Green
Headington Amateurs {EIGHT} 8-1 Burnham Res
Henley Town 1-1 Rayners Lane
Old Woodstock Town 1-0 Chinnor
Woodley Town 1-1 Easington Sports

WESSP
Bournemouth 2-5 Whitchurch United - unbeaten Whitchurch, handily placed in 3rd behind long-time leaders Moneyfields who were held by Lymington. Surprise new front runners are promoted Petersfield, who inflicted a first defeat on Blackfield & Langley.
Hamworthy United 2-0 Andover Town
Winchester City 3-1 Newport (IoW)
WESS1
Fleet Spurs 2-1 Ringwood Town - unbeaten Spurs in 2nd place with 2 games in hand on US Portsmouth. – Tadley surprise winners (on pens) at Basingstoke in the Hants County Cup in midweek, were not in action yesterday but are well-set in 4th, also undefeated with a further game in hand.

Elmer Park Thanks for the information Four. It will be interesting to see how the Hellenic League season pans out for the local clubs.

... plenty of action in that league tonight too:

Ascot go to pre-season faves Ardley
Newbury host a wounded Flackwell - fresh from their upset at home to Binfield - who themselves travel up to 2nd placed Highworth.
RTFC face a long trip to Brimscomb nr Stroud, whilst Milton have to grind the short distance round the Poxford ring-Rd to Kidlington.

Tomorrow night: sees Bracknell up at 'Nomads' - who have been wildly inconsistent this season and finally current leaders Highmoor/IBIS go to Cirencester's Corinium Stadium to visit Wootton Bassett Town - groundsharing there for a 2nd season whilst their new ground is being built.

I might 'switch constitutions' 8) .. and go Combined Counties league tonight: - Farnham host leaders Cove; Windsor welcome lone FA Cup survivors Raynes Park; Frimley Green play near neighbours Badshot Lea and there are two games around Woking both with 19:30 KOs (slightly more drinkinnining time :) )
Knaphill vs Molesey & Westfield vs Epsom & Ewell - will possibly pick one of those - if I can negotiate Bracknell -> Bagshot -> and beyond M3 in decent time.

Guildford scored a fantastic goal against Windsor on Saturday.

A James Rodriguez style goal where he took a clearance on his chest 30 yards out then volleyed it into top corner through a crowded penalty area. Best goal I can remember seeing at non league level. Shame nobody had it on film.

That is bit of a coup for Maidenhead. Wonder how long they'll be able to keep him. He's 32 now so won't be that many takers from championship or league one clubs i'd of thought. Saw him a few times for Yeading in that cup run season and have always followed his career up the leagues. Great journey that he has had!

CCLP
Ashford Town v Farnham Town
Chertsey Town v Cove
Colliers Wood United v Westfield
Frimley Green v Molesey - the CCL's 'Moles' are still on the goal trail - put 8 past Knaphill in midweek without reply - might be a bit potent for Frimley G to handle.
Hartley Wintney v Camberley Town
Knaphill v Hanworth Villa
Mole Valley SCR v Badshot Lea
Spelthorne Sports v Epsom & Ewell - Spelly's amazing unbeaten run in the league - stretching back to 6th May 2013 - finally ended last Wednesday, somewhat surprisingly 1-2 at Colliers Wood. I'd expect them to have far too much for E&E tomorrow, whom I saw get swamped 0-4 at Westfield on Tuesday evening.
Windsor v Horley Town

Binfield v Cheltenham Saracens - 'Moles' have notched two good away wins this week @ Flackwell then 2nd place Highworth on Tue; now sit above Thatcham in 5th - 'Kingfishers' were battered 1-4 at Ascot midweek. Binfield will not want to slip up vs bottom and still 'pointless' Sarries
Milton United v Oxford City Nomads - watched Nomads blitz Bracknell on Wed eve - a performance which merely emphasises how bewildering it is that they've slipped up so badly elsewhere already this season.
Newbury v Reading Town
Wootton Bassett Town v Ascot United 'Yellamen's' big win on Tue keeps them in 2nd; 4 pts behind H/I with a game in hand. The leaders won again on Wed @ Wootten B -

Scores from yesterday - about to trudge off to the dullfest vs the Dingles  so not as many comprehensive twiddly bits today soz.

Saturday 27th Sept
FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round
48 Hayes & Yeading United v St Albans City (Sun @ York Rd Maidenhead)

39 Hemel Hempstead Town 2-0 Dunstable Town
42 Dorking Wanderers 2-2 Biggleswade Town
43 Staines Town 5-0 Leverstock Green
- Went to this – mad dash out of the middle of ‘ding at 14:00h ish – youngest had just finished playing – M4/M25 clear – once I remembered the routes in avoiding Staines Town Centre my last trip here had been early in 95!
- - managed to park in the (v.posh) streets nearby – in through gate just before KO – from which the Swans opened the scoring. They added goals at regular intervals – were far too good with and without the ball for their STEP05 visitors. Crowd 241 – sat high up in the stand – but watching NL at STEP02 is quite pricey – especially with food (Bacon Cheeseburgers were pretty good though.)

44 Bromley 5-1 Uxbridge
50 Brackley Town 2-2 Farnborough replay at Cherrywood Rd Monday (tomorrow) night
55 Burnham 0-1 Canvey Island

60 Fleet Town 0-4 Burgess Hill Town
61 Wealdstone 1-1 Concord Rangers

Frimley Green 2-4 Molesey
Hartley Wintney 0-2 Camberley Town

Great afternoon at York Road Saturday as Maidenhead demolished Faversham – who in fairness didn’t look a terrible team but couldn’t match our organisation or fitness, particularly as the game wore on.

Ya man DJ looks the business, scoring one, hitting the bar and should have had another but for a dreadful offside shout from the lino. Looking forward to seeing how he does against tougher opposition.

DJ Campbell is so much better than that level he should score a hat trick every game.

Being pessimistic I suppose no one expects him to stay there very long but what a coup - I'm actually tempted to pop along and see a game.

Was surprised he allowed himself to be cup tied tbf and I did hilariously quip about 20 minutes in that he was f*cking sh1t coz he wasn't just dribbling past everyone and scoring each time he got the ball

It should be said that Faversham are only step 4 (which puts DJ Campbell's performance into more perspective) but are one of the better teams in Ryman 1 South. They've been in or around the playoffs in recent seasons and have ambitions to get to Conference South once they've upgraded the ground, impressive win for Maidenhead. Drove past Faversham's ground earlier in the year and was rather shocked to see that the trees had gone! (after the storms presumably). Certainly gave it a different look! First time i'd actually seen it properly, you could see very little from the main road before. Quite thankful the game was at York Road as would have felt like i'd been missing out by not going if it had been at Faversham (it isn't far from me - the Kent teams Maidenhead play usually aren't that close really), as been contemplating seeing Maidenhead in Kent for 7 years since they went up to Conference South (grew up in Maidenhead and still have fond affection for the area - even if it has changed a lot since I lived there!)

Certainly going to be even more interesting to see how Maidenhead do whilst DJ is there.

The fact he allowed himself to be cup-tied suggests that maybe he's planning a longer stay. I wasn't expecting him to still be there come the end of the season but maybe that is a possibility.

Always found it slightly odd that the Conf Prem clubs only have to play 1 qualy round. Slightly out of kilter with rest of the non league pyramid & often leads to a lop sided look to 4QR

... two replays above - played tonight

Kingstonian bt Romford 5-3 aet (3-3 FT)

Farnborough lost 0-1 to a very limited but well-drilled Brackley - - Eric Odhiambo (points for anyone who remembers who he's played for - and there are quite a few) scored the winner on about 30' - finishing a move completely out of keeping with the rest of the match - though boro did press desperately near the end - merely let Brackley demonstrate how doggedly they can defend under the high ball.

"Magic of the Cup" eh?
----- The only wonder, was how I managed to stay awake through 90' of that stale over-coached dross - give me the thrills of North Baaarks League any day of the week!

£12 b%stard quid to get in too - actually that's about the norm for STEP02 now....

'Dugout' Bar was cozy though ... and they are finally letting people sit in that gert big stand down one end - had stood empty and unused for yonks - presumably opened sometime last season when Paddy Power took over sponsorship?
