BFG Leeds away

by nailseabiscuitman » 01 Oct 2014 23:53

Opportunity for 3 points missed. Some comical defending towards the end almost gave away the match. Hector made some really bad mistakes mixed in with some really good defending, Obita much the same. Norwood looks a real class player and until Akpan went off the midfield worked quite well, his match ended by injury by the look of it . Guthrie added nothing when he came on. Blackman could have been the real match winner but decision making about when to release the ball after skinning the left back could have been far better. Wants the glory I think. Leeds could have nicked it at the end but would have been unjust
Federici 6 some terrible distribution
Gunter 7
Pearce 7
Hector 6
Obita 6
Blackman 7
Norwood 8
Akpan 7
Taylor 6
Cox 7
Murray 5.5

Sounded low, around the 300 figure, why the football league can't organise more local trips for a midweek game I'll never know.

Would have thought we'd have a bit more representation on the forum though!

The amount of Reading fans moaning about a point at Leeds, and that we're mid-table.. I'm more than happy with mid-table this season if it finally means there's some stability at the club, and the manager now finally can build his own team. Some people's expectations are ridiculous.

Decent game of football last night with Reading looking the better team but failing to get any killer pass in the final third despite having enough possession to do so. Leeds were reasonably good and the movement from the Italian centre forward gave us a few problems.

Player ratings: Federici 6 not too much to do but had the occasional brain fade on distribution; Gunter 6 OK game but final ball when getting forward was a bit meh; Obita 6 reasonable game but he played a few poor passes/crosses which suggests that he is not concentrating 100% perhaps he is thinking he is too good for this division; Pearce 8 very solid and won almost everything he went for; Hector 6 had a very nervy start and a harsh booking for handball but settled down in the second half; Norwood 9 top class in the first half when he had space and still good in the second; Akpan 8 best game under Adkins much more positive in passing and tackling (maybe the Nigeria call up boosted his confidence); Taylor 6.5 worked hard for the team; Cox 6 he ran around a lot but didn't really make an impact; Murray 6 same as Cox just didn't really get the service in the box; Blackman 7 played well would have been an 8 but his decisions on passing let him down a number of times. Subs came on fairly late apart from Robson-Kanu had very little impact, Guthrie looked 2 yards off the pace and we lost shape and tempo when he came on, Mackie anonymous.

Referee a bit of a homer in terms of consistency of decisions turned down one good penalty appeal from us but with a couple of other theatrical efforts from us in the box we are not making it easy for refs to give us penalties.

Continuing on a theme from last season it looked like around 250-300 from RFC and less in number and volume from last season.

Broadly agree with the comments so far. Norwood and Akpan working well in tandem, Blackman easily the most likely to produce something, Cooper and Obita guilty of some moments of serious sloppiness in possession. Federici's distribution was poor too and nearly cost us a couple of times.

But we kept the ball well, by and large. There were probably a few times when we really needed to shift gears quicker to exploit an opportunity on the break, and sometimes we looked happier to allow Leeds time to regroup and play the ball around in front of them.

Mackie looked really off the pace when he came on, bundling gracelessly into the full-back on both occasions that he had possession in a decent spot. And sadly Murray had very little influence on the game.

I thought HRK's cameo was promising. Given McCleary's situation and Mackie's form I'd have HRK back in the team as soon as possible, replacing Taylor who doesn't seem to produce much to me.

Anyway, overall a pretty encouraging performance I'd say. Far more competent than against Wolves, just missing a little cutting edge.

Only one goal away in five games! Is it tactics, we score easily at home!

A goal difference of ZERO suggests to me you won't get promotion this season.

Go buy a flat up Adkins backside, like the 2 guys above, and 1 goal in our last 5 away, while passing the ball nicely amongst ourselves, will be preferable to supporting one of those inferior teams who win ugly by putting the ball in the net.

That's quite a leap of faith there chap :| Is that really a serious suggestion?

The Quiet Man blackman 7 played well would have been an 8 but his decisions on passing let him down a number of times.

Maybe he thinks he's too good for this division

Second placed Forest haven't scored in the last three games. Their record is 3 points from the last 9, 7 from the last 15. Our record is three scored in the last three, 2 points from 9, 8 from the last 15.

Anyone can pounce on a statistic to support their point of view.

If we're going to throw statistics around, it's worth noting that Leeds had won thee and lost one at home in the league this season, scoring 5 and conceding 2. Given our current squad and injury list, I think a draw at Leeds is an acceptable result.

Poor result when you actually look at the balance of the game that was played.

Could say exactly the same about you windermere_royal but in the other extreme.
