Great interview with Drax and DJ Campbell on the Advertiser site. Drax can't believe that DJ is there and wants him to find a Championship club. DJ on the other hand didn't sound like someone who would be moving on that soon...

Four Of Clubs Eric Odhiambo (points for anyone who remembers who he's played for - and there are quite a few)

pretty sure he was at West Ham - wasn't he involved in an ineligibility dust-up?

Stranded Some dark recess of my mind has him at Leicester.

... got a bit confused myself - not uncommon these days :|

- See if anyone can follow this: - there are three brothers - Tanzanian -origin but Eric was born in Oxford - two of them have Anaclet as forenames - and two are at Brackley now - - Eric (the scorer for Brackley on Monday night) had recently joined his brother Eddie, who is a full-back at the club - and is listed as Odhiambo-Anaclet to distinguish him?
The other brother also called Anaclet :?: was (until recently) at Abingdon Utd.

Eric arrived from Sligo Rovers but both had started as youths at Poxford - indeed Eric's first senior club was the 'Filberts' - so Beer Tokens (self-funded :wink: ) due to Stranded
- three years; 0 appearances =- majority of his first team opportunities came with long spells at Inverness Caley Thistle then Denzilspor (or summatlike that! :? )

Eddie (who was born in Tanzania) went off to Southampton from OUFC as a youth and returned to play for OUFC firsts - then drifted around upper non-league (Stevenage, Newport, Gateshead) - joining Brackley in 2012.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PS Watched 'Yellamen' ease to a 2-0 win over Holyport last night to go top of the Hellenic premier. Wins elsewhere for Binfield - three (sorry now four) in a row under the new manager - RTFC and Milton. Flackwell returned to form thunoping Ardkey 4-2 - newbury pummelled 0-5 at Kidlington .... and the sadly the lights went out @ Waterdside Park after half an hour on Thatcham v Bracknell, with the Robins leading 1-0 - almost went there too! :o
In the Southern League Premier Burnham put 5 past Bideford (Kebamba scoring all five - hatrick by the 10'); Hungerford held 0-0 by Dunstable.
... oops - meant to type ArdLey but no idea where the 'thunoping' came from! - think I may just have fallen off my chair laughing at discovering the news of the goal going at St Jakob Pk - and forgot to read back through my ramblings until it was too late! :D
Anywheres - here's tomorrow's NL preview - lots of FA Vase games to choose from:
... some good CCL v HELLENIC 'tussles' in there too: - 'Moles' go to Stag Meadow on a run of four straight wins and Windsor's form isn't at all shabby either; 5 wins from the last 7 in the league.
Four Of Clubs ...
CONFS
Concord Rangers 2-3 Basingstoke Town - Dragons winner in the 94'
Would like to add in this game the Basingstoke keeper was taken off at half time and with no sub keeper on the bench top scorer flood went in goal for 2nd half then with 10 mins to go they had a player sent off.
Four Of Clubs
Arlesey Town 1-0 Slough Town - poor result at the basement side after a great win at Corby midweek
1,000 miles in a week seemed to catch up with them a bit, although did have a goal (wrongly) ruled out for offside, hit the bar, and created numerous other chances. Still, Arlesey's village team, managed by Rufus (is a dog's name) Brevett only disgraced themselves a couple of times, allegedly calling one of the STFC supporters a 'cow' and flicking the V's at the 'hardcore' away contingent (who unsurprisingly took umbrage). Fun times, but happy with 6 points from 3 away games this week.
played against Anaclet last season, handful, quick but was really erratic in front of goal and missed an absolute sitter from about 4 yards when i was on the floor. Nice bloke actually and he's played for loads of local non league sides, done pretty well relatively.
40 Whitehawk v Chelmsford City
CONFP
Aldershot Town v Bristol Rovers
Altrincham v Woking
CONFN
Oxford City v Solihull Moors
CONFS
Farnborough v Bishops Stortford
- only one league match tomorrow but some good results midweek - Magpies walloped W-S-M 6-2 and climb to 8th; Basingstoke went top with a 1-0 win over Whitehawk, they also have a game in hand. H&Y won 3-2 at Staines.
SOUTHP
Bideford v Hungerford Town
Paulton Rovers v Burnham
Slough Town v Redditch United
- midweek action in this section: Chesham W2-1 v strugglers Histon - whilst there was an astonishing comeback from Dorchester at home to Bideford; trailing by three entering the 89th minute - by 94' they'd levelled for an unlikely point - bet a few left early! :twisted: . Poole, galloping clear at the top, downed Truro 3-0 - all the goals in the first 15'.
SOUTH1C
AFC Hayes v Northwood
Aylesbury v Bedford Town
Bedworth United v Aylesbury United
Hanwell Town v Royston Town
Kettering Town v Uxbridge
Leighton Town v Godalming Town
Marlow v Egham Town
Potters Bar Town v Beaconsfield SYCOB
- some fairly big scores in this division midweek - Chalfont were beaten by the odd goal in ELEVEN :shock: at home by Potters Bar; Egham and Marlow both won 2-1 at home latter with an injury time pen v N.Greenford and basement club SYCOB succumbed 2-3 at Uxbridge.
SOUTH1S&W
Bashley v Wantage Town
Didcot Town v Yate Town
Fleet Town v Larkhall Athletic
- watched Fleet bt Tivvy 2-0 with some ease and get clear of the bottom - played some good stuff on the break and the back four were very solid. It is a long trip midweek for Tiverton though doubt they were home much before 02:00h and a lot probably had work the next day.
- elsewhere mixed bag for local sides - Wantage beaten at home 1-3 by Shortwood ; Diddy fought back from 2 down early on to pick up a point at Sholing on Wed. 'Nor Lye' were beaten 1-2 at Cinderford - the Eynsham park men have this w/e off as their scheduled opponents (Shortwood) are still in the FA Cup @ v Bath.
- in the B&B Senior Cup two more ties were played this week - Burnham bt Aylesbury 4-1; Hungerford tipped out Sluff 2-1 - crowd in three figures. Draw for the next round Quarter Finals has been made:
Aylesbury United v Chalfont St Peter
Chesham United v Beaconsfield SYCOB
Hungerford Town v Maidenhead United
Marlow v Burnham
and as suspected we are NOT involved :( - that's if we ever really were :? ?
CCLP Cup R2
Sheerwater v Mole Valley SCR
CCLP
Chertsey Town v Camberley Town
Cove v Colliers Wood United
Epsom & Ewell v Bedfont Sports
Farnham Town v Westfield
Guildford City v Frimley Green
Hanworth Villa v Badshot Lea
Horley Town v Hartley Wintney
Knaphill v Windsor - relatively local trip down to fringes of N.Woking - - I visit here frequently often for midweek games - pleasant much upgraded ground - still has quite a new feel to it. Oddly positioned small seated-stand off-set behind one of the goals. Nice bright airy clubhouse - started doing hot food in the last couple of years and I they have a drinks license now too. Local residents aren't too chuffed about the lights but the ground is set down in a bit of a dip and evidently the club have ticked all of the boxes to avoid any 'nimby' backlash. Though the locals can still be a bit ar$ey about football parking - so Windsor fans beware - the football club car park has been extended recently, so that ought not to be much of an issue.
Molesey v Raynes Park Vale
Spelthorne Sports v Ashford Town (Middx)
CCL1
Ash United v Eversley & California
CB Hounslow United v Worcester Park
Chessington & Hook United v Banstead Athletic
Cobham v Alton Town
Farleigh Rovers v Epsom Athletic
Sandhurst Town v AFC Croydon Athletic
Staines Lammas v Bedfont & Feltham
HELLP
Ardley United v Abingdon United
Cheltenham Saracens v Ascot United
Highmoor Ibis v Oxford City Nomads
Holyport v Brimscombe & Thrupp
Milton United v Reading Town
Newbury v Shrivenham
Thame United v Kidlington
Thatcham Town v Binfield
HELL1W
Letcombe v Tuffley Rovers
HELL1E
Burnham Res v Brackley Town 'Dev'
Easington Sports v Old Woodstock Town
Headington Amateurs v Chinnor
WESSP
Whitchurch United v Newport (IoW)
WESS1
East Cowes Victoria v Tadley Calleva
Fleet Spurs v New Milton Town
B&B Int R2 (all 14:30 KOs)
Prestwood v Penn & Tylers Green
Wokingham & Emmbrook v Ascot United (Development)
Finchampstead v Maidenhead Magpies
Hurst v Woodley Town
... as usual undecided re my destination tomorrow - fancied Evesham for a new tick but its a bit far for me to go 'solo' - family all off elsewhere apart from middle-one and she'll be glued to X-Factor recordings. Some interesting low level County Cup (Intermediate) ties beckon - will see how I feel and based on weather/traffic conditions tomorrow will opt for one - most likely pretty close by.
FOC, any chance you could count up all the previous winners of the B&B Cup by county ie. Berkshire vs Buckinghamshire using the pre-1974 boundaries and put it into some sort of pie chart? No hurry, any time in the next 5 minutes :!:
The loser gets to keep Slough :!:
NO! :)
... I did wiki it and Sluff have won it fourteen times - but under four different guises; I think we've won it three times but two of those were 19th Century including the inaugural competition in 1878/79 - the Chairboys (WWFC) have held it the most times (29) - with the next most successful being MUFC (17) then Chesham (14) tied with Slough.
Novel 'singletons' to 'win' the Cup : Old Philberdians :?: shared it with 'Swifts' in 1879/80 & Wolverton L&NWR won in 1893 - interestingly enough it was not competed for during 14-18 War years but was held through the 39-45 one.
But I'm in danger of disappearing up the wrong sleeve of the Anorak there Floyders so ....
... I'll let someone else do the fancy stuff with tables/spreadsheets etc - I do enough of that when I'm at work!
so fill yer boots - link below gives the winners up to 2001 - and Wiki can provide the rest: 8)
Got 'spotted' by a home official as a likely 'hopper' - presumably as a 'stranger' amongst a 'crowd' of about 6 :) . He seemed very pleased to have someone to chat to about that level of football - nice fellah - went and found me a programme too - as long as I promised to write nice things about them - suggested I should pay £25 for it, as I was the only one paying for one! :lol:
Good Café/Bar set up overlooking the ground - did some nice local Ale (Tring Brewery) Very simple - roped pitch no lights no seats (apart from the odd bench or kiddies climbing frame).
Enjoyed my trip to Knaphill. Parking was ok and there were at least 100 in attendance. The burgers were excellent and the best I have had at that level. The programme was also excellent - a really professional production and unbelievable value at £1.
We weren't at our best and the pitch, while in excellent condition, could have done with being mowed. The length of the grass did not help our style. Some cracking goals and Kane Jones being nothing but a pest. Forever chirping and winding up anyone who got near him. Resulted with one of their players getting sent off for a mindless shove in full view of the officials.
7 (SEVEN) indeed, the horror, the horror :shock:
Absolute shambles, from being 2-1 down at half-time to total collapse in the last 35 minutes. Injuries haven't helped, and when your last fit centre-back limps off to be replaced by the centre-forward it's never a good sign. Still full marks to Redditch who not only brought some fans (rare) but also played very well, never let up and in their no. 10 had the best player I have seen this season.
...well you can recuperate with a nice trip down to Runnymeade to play the 'Sarnies' in the RI Cup this Tuesday - they win as many as they lose, so could be entertaining? Depends how serious either club takes the competition I s'pose?
Plenty of other local match-ups midweek during 'League Cup week' across the Southern League: Diddy v Nor Lye; Hungerford v Wantage; Chesham v Aylesbury Utd; Marlow v Uxbridge & SYCOB v Burnham (Mon eve)
... makes good sense that the early ties appear 'grouped' rather than drawn - can't imagine Sluff would be too amused were they drawn out to trek all the way down to Tiverton or Truro :shock: on a Tuesday night for a League Cup tie. :? Goes without saying really that those two are drawn together in the First Round as are Weymuff vs Dorchester; Bridgwater v Taunton. Not sure about Bideford: they are involved in a County Cup tie this week - can't be @rsed to work out who else is missing from the draw - maybe they get a bye on geographical grounds?
Having looked at the numbers there are 68 clubs in the Southern League but only 62 are involved in the First round : Bideford, Larkhall and Stratford are involved elsewhere this midweek - the latter pairs' RI 1st Round ties are w/c 20th Oct - :? P'raps they've already had a preliminary round to get rid of 4 clubs and I've missed it?
UPDATE this definitely seems to be the case Hereford & Bedford have already fallen by the wayside according to results back in September. Its far too late to try and work out who the other missing one's could be!
Its CCL Premier Cup (includes Div One clubs :?: ) & HELLENIC Floodlit Cup week too - but they don't seem quite so discernible re travelling, though in general their 'footprint' is much smaller. Certainly the Hellenic don't have any daft distances programmed in yet for the early rounds of this particular competition - but I'm sure they often do in their more senior League (Bluefin) Cup, albeit ties are usually scheduled for weekends where possible.
- some interesting ties about though:
CCL Premier Cup - Chertsey v Windsor; Frimley G v Spelthorne; Camberley v Molesey
Hellenic Floodlit Cup; Bracknell v Chinnor; Thatcham v Kiddy; Thame v OCN; Binfield v Ab Utd (Mon)
Some league action in the Wessex Premier at least -
Tue - Winchester v Christchurch
Wed - Whitchurch v Petersfield
Diddy 3rd then and you all scoffed when they got moosed 3-0 by Larkhall and I said they'd make the playoffs.
Local games must be in some danger with all the recent rain.
Chertsey's pitch was described to me on Saturday (by a Knaphill fan) as bibbly bobbly. Add a bit of mud to the equation and it'll be a typical winter away-day for Windsor.
