Asamoah Gyan has released a statement denying his involvement in the murder of Ghanaian rapper Castro.

Castro, a friend of the former Sunderland striker, went missing along with his girlfriend Janet Bandu in July.

The rapper, whose real name is Theophilus Tagoe, and his partner disappeared while using jet skis on holiday with Gyan's family in Ada.

West Ham's James Tomkins fined over police assault

A Premier League footballer has been fined for assaulting a police officer outside an Essex nightclub.

West Ham defender James Tomkins, 25, was refused entry to the Sugar Hut in Brentwood on 21 December last year, and security staff called police.

Tomkins pleaded guilty to assaulting a police constable, being drunk and disorderly in public and obstructing a police constable.

He has been fined £3,500 for the assault.

'Blot on character'

Chair of the bench at Southend Magistrates' Court, Martin Everett, told him: "It is a late guilty plea but it has saved the court a trial and witnesses".

"This is a blot on your character," he said.

He added he had "no doubt" that West Ham "will take their own action" to punish him.

Tomkins, of Hutton Mount, Shenfield, was also ordered to pay £3,785 in court costs, £200 compensation to the police constable and a £120 victim surcharge.

Yes he killed some kids but it wasn't premeditated murder, it was death by dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol.

Not good at all and shouldn't have been playing again, but the way you phrased it, it sounded like he hunted down some kids and killed them. If he had hit some adults and killed them, you wouldn't have phrased it like that.

On the one hand I completely agree. On the other he's served his time and you can't bar ex-criminals from working. The only issue here is really the public profile and the fact he'll earn quite a lot, should that really make a difference? Should all ex-criminals be stuck working dead-end menial jobs, or on benefits?
