the Dutch have lost twice in their group already (I expect they'll still make it by winning their home games......)

Interesting qualifying groups as Germany and Spain have also lost a (tricky-ish) away game each, and Portugal lost at home to Albania iirc.

Holland, Germany and Spain all had brilliant qualifying records before this tournament.

Big teams taking it easy under a simple qualification structure, or Europe's 'minnows' getting better?* Probably neither, interesting though, as you say.

*Enjoying Iceland's vast improvement.

I think it's the result of a few factors. Minnows suddenly see they have a chance and so have upped their game, the big boys taking their eye off the ball slightly but also most of those teams are going through a transitional period after some long periods of success.

I'd love to know what the press/public reaction has been to those results in the respective countries. Just imagine what would've happened over here if England had similar results!

Well, that was fun. I kept telling the people around me that we should equalize as late as possible, and then John O'Shea (of all people) gets first to the ball. It was some jump around in the away end I can tell you.

Just spotted myself on this video too - about a minute in - I appear in the bottom left of the screen. I'm just about the only person not wearing a green top (I had one on under my (brown) jacket. One can almost feel my optimism.

I think (hope) you are confusing me with a bloke in the bottom right of the screen after 25-30 seconds. I come (lol) later in the video after a minute (bottom left, as said) with a cap and a scarf. And I look lovely.

Thanks for your concern NFA. The mistake I made was wearing too many layers beneath the jacket - heavy pullover, Ireland shirt and etc. And I was really not prepared for the cameras. With over 50,000 there, I didn't think I'd be spotted.

As alluded to earlier in the thread was present at both Poland Germany and Poland Scotland in the past week. Quite how the Germans didn't beat Poland having dominated all match. Szczesny was impressive in both matches. Was impressed with Scotland midweek Strachan tactically got it spot on for large parts keeping home support restless. In the end it was a match that could have gone either way. Sure the Poles would have taken 4 points from 6.

I was thinking of you when I heard the Poland-Germany result - a very historic victory you got to witness. And two very memorable games all in all, I would have thought.

Good weekend of fixtures ahead. England should at least face a reasonable side on Sat against Slovenia who'll want to try and benefit from Switzerland's dozy start by getting something from the game.

Friday's Scotland v ROI game is looking very watchable, presumably it's on live somewhere.

Could potentially be a very atmospheric crowd.....Friday night 7.45 kick off and neither set of fans need much encouragement when it comes to a piss up - Celtic Park hosting the game as well.

Off out to Belgium tomorrow for another real test of Wales' ability.

If we gain anything from that game, then qualifying is a very realistic possibility.
