Derby: back from doing something else

by floyd__streete » 18 Oct 2014 17:31

4pts off the bottom 3. No wins in 6. 3 goals conceded in each of the last 3 matches.

Looking forward to reading the views of you poor unfortunates who attended.

BFTG/OTWH Derby (H) 0-3

by Royal Ginger » 18 Oct 2014 17:40

I'm not sure that performance was as bad as the record books will have us believe.

I thought we were in the game throughout and on top for long periods. Clearly Derby's finishing and defending were better than ours, but with a bit more luck that could have gone our way.

Murray has clearly learned from the school of Jason Roberts by backing into a player and claiming a foul. That said he was still a cut above the rest.

HRK wasn't awful but hugged the line far too closely to be able to get into the game

Norwood had a touch of the Danny Guthries in the first half. Not everything has to be a 40 yard cross field pass.

Hector was excellent then atrocious, then excellent then atrocious. It will come with time, but he needs to even it out a bit.

Suffered again with them running at the defense with pace. Same old story there.

Cox very good yet again.

Was Jake Taylor actually playing?

It's nearly there, there's glimmers of a good team and today, for the first time I can remember under Adkins there was a plan B that looked like it could work. They were able to switch from the regular Adkins style short ball (allowing for Norwood's hit and hopes) to a long ball option in the last 20 minutes.

I'm not upset that i got a ticket for this one, they gave it a good go against a Derby side that will probably get promoted automatically.

How can losing 0-3 be improving?

Hardly leaps and bounds. More like not as bad as we have been recently.

ManchesterRoyals How can losing 0-3 be improving?

I would think that would be obvious. Over the run of the game we played better than we have been despite the goals. Plus losing 3-0 to a top team like Derby > losing 3-1 to Brentford.

Even at home, compared to away? Crikey!

Pretty fair write-up.

Derby were much more clinical, and one could point to Murray's header off the bar and Pog's open goal miss as the two turning points. 3-0 flattered Derby, who looked very composed, but not three goals better.

That said, we were disappointing for sizeable chunks of that game, and can't expect to earn (m)any points whilst we keep gifting soft goals. Of the nine goals we've conceded in the past three matches, I think seven or eight (or maybe nine) have been due to poor defending, for which the players and manager should expect criticism.

Dreadful performance.

Adkins clueless.

Has not got the faintest idea how to get a defensive unit working as one. Conceding three at home in two consecutive games and another three away at Brentford is just very poor.

Eddie Howe must be relishing facing our crock of shite on Tuesday.

floyd__streete 4pts off the bottom 3.

Apologies, it is 5 points the gap to the bottom 3 and 5 points to the top 6. Hard to be anything other than pessimistic when you've conceded 3 goals a game in each of your last 3 matches. The next 7 games look rather bleak also; only Blackpool looks eminently winnable. We could be looking at bottom 3 and a change of manager by the start of December. It's such a shame.

Cox should have scored early in the first half with a free header, HRK should have scored when the ball rebounded off the keeper, murray hit the bar, and pog should have scored in the second half. We had other chances aswell. We are creating, we just the need the shambolic defence to keep us in games to take the pressure off our offensive game.

we seemed to focus our game down our right today, very little came down the left and considering HRK had the beating of their LB i was suprised by this - Mackie.... yet to see what he provides other than hard work, very limited player no pace doesn't go past people, poor crossing, in fact did he even put a cross in today?

The defence wasn't good but the real problem is in midfield, we were non existent.

Taylor - out of his depth
Norwood -clearly a player but need some quality around him
Hrk - out of his depth

Are you getting Hal Robson-Kanu and Jamie Mackie mixed up?

Terrible, terrible performance. I strongly disagree with anyone who thought we were the better team, and anyone who claims we're showing hints of improvement. It's been consistently shit for a while now - time to go Nige

Derby are the team we want to be. Balanced, powerful and with that bit of extra quality to make teams pay.

I think we'll get there in the end and I reckon Adkins is that man. He was made manager with a remit to change how we play and he's only been backed a little bit due to the ownership debacle. Norwood needs a partner in the middle, a left back so we can push Obita further on and at least one if not two centre backs. Once we have those players we can truly judge the manager.

Derby are a great team, but it's taken them 4 or 5 years to get there. They didn't totally play us off the park despite the score.

I could watch Will Hughes play football all day, kids an absolute baller. English academies seem to produce a lot of players in his mould. Reminds me a lot of Barkley on the ball.
