Team for Blackburn

by Ian Royal » 25 Oct 2014 23:15

So we got the win we needed, but we didn't play too well at all.
Kelly's back in the squad. Guthrie, Williams, McCleary & Ferdinand all got 45 minutes under their belt on Thursday in a training match.

Changes, or stick with the team that won?

For me:
.....................Federici
..Kelly..Hector..Pearce (c)....Obita
.............Akpan..Norwood
Mackie..........Cox............Taylor
.....................Murray

Subs: Andersen, Gunter, Cooper, Kuhl, Williams, Blackman, McCleary

Seems a bit early for the likes of McCleary, Williams and Ferdinand plus Guthrie'll get injured the second he steps on the pitch. Kelly to add a bit of defensive quality. Taylor to add a bit more hardwork and an occasional goal threat over the anonymous HRK.

As long as HRK stays away from the first team, i'd be happy. What a waste of space he really has become.

Feds

Gunter
Hector
Pearce
Obita

Norwood
Akpan

Mackie
Cox
Blackman

Murray

For all his faults Blackman actually does offer something unlike the always ineffective HRK. Maybe HRK would provide more of a threat coming on as a sub.

If Ferdinand is fit enough start him over Pearce. Hector needs an experienced centre half like Ferdinand alongside him to help him develop, and Pearce has been useless this season.

Actually surprising how impressive our team will be when everyone is fit, looking at Williams, Karacan and McCleary all to come in. Interesting to see who will make way for them though, and how the midfield will line up if we keep our current formation, not enough space for Williams, Karacan, Norwood and Guthrie!

Would still be concerned about that back 4 though :|

I'd keep same starting team as Blackpool with one exception:
I'd start Blackman in place of HRK.
Both he and Taylor impressed from the bench. While I haven't previously been impressed by Taylor he keeps chipping in with goals and had his best game. I'd go for Blackman & use Taylor from the bench again.
HRK isn't currently doing enough for me. I know he's got the ability - see the cross in first few minutes v Derby & showed plenty in the last Premier League escapade.
I wouldn't change back 5 after a clean sheet.

Blackburn away will clearly be significantly tougher than Blackpool home so here's hoping.

Too far from home for Eddie Howe and why would he leave Bournemouth for us even if we had a vacancy?

Minimal changes needed after a victory and a clean sheet.

I would rather start with Taylor than HRK though. Don't get me wrong, I think HRK is a better player, but we're pretty fragile defensively right now and Taylor will actually offer some support to Obita. Same with Mackie on the right. It's particularly harsh on Blackman who along with Cox has been our best player this season.

I don't think there's much point rushing anyone back right now. The risks outweigh the benefits.

Federic; Gunter, Hector, Pearce, Obita; Mackie, Norwood, Akpan, Taylor; Cox; Murray
Subs: Andersen, Cooper, Kelly, Kuhl, HRK, Blackman, Pogrebnyak

Same as last time out but with Blackman in for HRK. Hopefully we'll have Guthrie on the bench who can replace Akpan when he runs out of running at about 75 minutes.

I'd like to see us play very defensively and hang on for a point. We'll get slaughtered if we go for three points.

I'd go for this:
....................................Federici......................................
Gunter........Hector.................Pearce................Kelly
.............................Akpan......Norwood........................
...Mackie.....................Cox...............................Obita...
..................................Murray.......................................
SUBS: Andersen, Cooper, Long, Kuhl, Guthrie, Taylor, Blackman

A bit of pace wide left through Obita would be much better than HRK whilst having a more solid defender would improve the back four.
With this I reckon we could snatch a cheeky one-niller at Ewood

I genuinely interested in your thoughts on starting Pog, seeing as IMO he's barely looked a footballer this season, let alone a Championship quality goalscorer.

And I think it speaks volumes that he was left out in favour of HRK when Murray was injured.

Exactly, and that is what we should have done at Bournemouth. Make them make all the running and challenge them to break down to banks of 4 that are sitting quite deep. Then when we win the ball we can use the pace of Blackman (if he starts) and Cox to launch counter attacks.

Yes we'll still probably lose, but the approach of taking the game to the opposition away from hasn't been working too well so it's worth a try against a team in decent form.
