by Sanguine » 27 Oct 2014 11:40

Draw for the First Round-proper today.

Two lowest ranked clubs left are:

Warrington Town (Northern Premier League Division One North, 8th tier), who have qualified for the First Round for the first time in their history.

Shildon A.F.C, from the 9th tier and the division below Warrington, have a replay next week, and are in the draw. Shildon have got through four rounds of qualifying, so far, and beaten three teams ranked above them , including Stalybridge Celtic from the Conference North.

BBC In a first for FA Cup coverage, the BBC will be giving extra prominence to the early rounds of the competition, placing lower league clubs in the spotlight.

Yeah, because ITV didn't televise 1st and 2nd round games when they had the rights :|

Usual self-loving BBC arrogance, they tell us they will take the FA Cup draws live on the road from different venues across the country throughout the season, including a few surprise locations.....its the FA Cup, 140+ years of tradition, it doesn't need gimmicks FFS :|

Bromley v Dartford
Pompey v Aldershot
'nam v Swindon all have the potential to be interesting

Poor Alfreton will have to start their 4th round replay v Lincoln without a recognised goalkeeper

How are they? I suspect the money they put into the game wouldn't cover one major transfer fee?

Hopefully Basingstoke will be able to get through their reply tonight and set up a tie with Spennymore.

... indeed - their league form would suggest nearer the 'miss' mark than 'hit' - you'd might half-expect top of the Conf South could see off bottom of the CONF Prem - but AFC Telford have just got a point away at Kiddy - who've been pretty good at home - and their most recent win was at surprise play-off contenders Woking only a fortnight ago ( I know it is a bit early to be thinking that.)

..some other FA4Q replay results of note tonight: - Hemel bt Nuneaton 2-0 and go to Bury; Conf Prem leaders Barnet walloped Chelmsford 4-1 and host Wycombe; H&W eased past Canvey Island and welcome L1 high fliers PNE; Halifax thrashed Chorley 5-0 to play Bradford City - and finally the aforementioned Woking now travel to Wrexham who bt Macclesfield 5-2 in their replay.

Had the great pleasure of attending this yesterday. Slightly dubious sending off, but Cheltenham were already winning 1-0 and playing well.

If you want to highlights of Swindon getting a hammering (and who wouldn't?) they're here http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29974906
