Probably a bad week for Clarke to take over in fairness. Getting smashed at home to Watford won't be a great start.

Good lord, I hadn't even noticed! Splendid!

We probably had some old coats left over from SC1, so it all makes sense now.

Evening all, A Baggie here, Steve's had a little pop at us by saying the Club is standing still. Well in oe respect he's right a year on and we've got another dour Scots git in charge :D But seriously, I like Steve his connections brought in Romelu Lukaku. Who cost a lot in loan fees, but was worth that in goals. He had a lot to deal with during the Odemwingie saga and came out of that better than the agent and player (twitter can be a terrible thing for player to make jackasses out of themselves). So where did it go wrong for him with us? 2013's summer window w'd lost both Lukaku and Odemwingie. So he brought in Anelka on huge wages and chased Solomon Kalou who didn't want to come. we missed out on perhaps better alternatives while in the chase we ended up with Morgan Amalfitano who was good for 3 highlight reel worthy goals, but, little else. on Deadline Day. He was going to sell want away striker Shane Long for £7 million in order to bring Lukaku back, But Everton matched our offer and he decided he'd learn more there. which bring me to his great weakness plan B which is throw on the forwards and hope for the best. This is great if you've got Lukaku and Odemwingie, not so good if you've got an aging Anelka and Big Vic Anichebe. In the it was 2 goals and an inappropriate salute that seald Anelka's sorry stint here. It was was 7 wins in 34 for Clarke. Pepe Mel saved us plus he got us playing well with little to no support from the board. In a way Clarke's right we haven't moved forward we would have done that by appointing Mel which would have been slight gamble by the board, but Clarke would have taken us down with the form we were on. What ultimately happens with AFI (Clarke mkII) who knows? Cheers steve for your first season. I hope he does well at Reading and gets you promotion. But, the manager our board should be apologising to isn't Clarke it's Mel for robbing him of his chance . Merry Christmas by the way

RL think of FFP. We haven't got to buy a new training kit & winter jacket - we can use the old one..

Cheers for making the effort to post & giving us a bit of insight. We are crying out for a no nonsense, defensive minded coach who will get this current shambles resembling something akin to a team...that won't concede stupid goals week in week out & will fight to the death.

Reckon Clarke fits the bill.

What the hell is going on? Clarke's been in place for over 24 hours and we haven't won a single match yet. Another poor managerial appointment!

Nah we neveer really saw that we conceded silly goals and he'd either bring on Odemwingie to partner Lukaku or Vice versa. or Long and lukaku after january Clarke pushed for Anelka on massive wages (75kpw) He chased the Chelsea old guard when truth be told we should have gone after Lukaku on a permanant. we lost out on something 35 goals when Rom and Pete went they weren't replaced. His summer window was a disaster for us, I would say it was a tale of two seasons, but, it started after christmas and by the beginning of the new season most fans knew it was a case of when, not if he would get the spanish archer

Madejski and Co are hiding behind the whole FFP thing, that's for sure. We will probably do next to nothing in January, especially if we start doing well from now up till then.

What is looking pretty certain is that Clarke wont be getting anything like the funds he got at WBA. His connections could come in handy though, for loan deals in particular.

Cheers for posting. Always had a soft spot for WBA. You've always seemed pretty decent fans compared to some of your other cousins from the Midlands. Seem to remember you lot wearing Viking hats down here the year you won promotion.

Got to say I'm more than happy with Steve Clarke's appointment.

In an echo of another post at the time, I would also like to say when we beat you 3-2 nearly two years ago, Lukaku's performance was the most frightening I've seen from an opposition forward. Pity you couldn't hang on to him but it was never to be for clubs our size and you're a bigger club than us without doubt.

Sadly they won't Chelsea charge Loan fees lukaku first season costs £3.5m but he was a prem class 19 goal striker which is a bargin because that the difference between 10th and 8th His value up to £7m when he he went everton on loan I know because that's how much Clarke was going to originally sell Long for to Hull to fund another loan. Everton matched the offer and Lukaku chose them because he wanted to learn more another club, having just turned 20 His big mistake that window was not targeting Lukaku instead trying to sign Chelsea old guard
