Gunter with McLeary in front of him on the right has been a decent combination at times. Without McLeary he's lost and I've not been won over by either Gunter at LB or Obita anywhere but LB. Go back to that and with either a half-fit Ferdinand or loanee at CB alongside one of Hector or Cooper and we'll have half a chance.

Having seen the press conference I've changed my mind on him. I could never really warm to Adkins but thought Clarke came across well. Not a bad appointment on reflection, maybe a moderately whelmed 6/10 from me as I think someone else put.

If he does well not expecting instant results, but interested to see how he gets on.

It's hypothetical at the moment Because he's probably on Gardening leave from Leeds Irvine's let a two goal lead slip at QPR further endearing himself to the fans. Should he be sacked. Do you think Brian McDermott would be good fit for our club? Could he keep us up? And, has he worked under a DOF before? Again apologies for the off topicness of the question Cheers lads

Brian's worked with a DoF at us, not under. He's scouting at Arsenal at the moment iirc.

I don't think he'd be a good choice to keep you up, but many here would probably disagree. Surely you'd look to someone like Pulis?

Personally I don't think McDermott is a Premier League manager. He was brilliant for us in the Championship, but I thought he looked out of his depth in the Premier League. But yes he has worked with a DOF, we've had a Director of Football for probably about 10 years now.

Under was my bad choice of words, I meant with. Interesting he's at Arsenal as the DOF is Terry Burton who used to be head development coach there. As for being out of his depth it's hard to see him being worse than Irvine. Thanks again for info it's much appreciated on pretty crappy day

I take back my vote of being underwhelmed.

I think there is just about the right amount of whelmage occurring in this appointment.

His record and experience is actually quite promising.

And I must say he's a breath of fresh air to listen to. Down to earth says it as it is.

I don't see how anyone can't be massively underwhelmed. His win ratio sucks, he's done nothing.

At least the likes of Mcghee, Pardew, McDermott, were our own men and came from no experience at all and Sir John found something in them.

This guy has been tested and... done bugger all.

Hugely underwhelmed but obviously he may well do ok.

The biggest underwhelmage [sic] comes from the whole ownership situation which has lead us to the sad reality of having a top manager who we can't fund adequately and so we sack him to get some nobody in who we hope will accept the financial constraints we're now under and work wonders.
