GH Royal Still think St Ledger could be worth a shot to bolster defensive options.. (out of contract)

Ipswich took him on for a month didn't play then they released - i think that says alot

Didn't realise that, fair enough!

I guess problem with getting anyone that has been out of contract since the summer is that they won't be match fit for a while.

Sutekh All for it really, just needs to be tweaked so it works properly i.e. ALL clubs under the auspices of the FA/PL/FL should have it applied and there should be points penalties so bigger clubs get properly hurt by it

Next up for me is the REMOVAL of parachute payments for all relegated clubs.

That would be a disaster with the way finances are between leagues. I'd rather parachute payments were managed in some way to restrict their use to wages for players who were at the club in the previous season.

To be fair though, not being able to break into a defence that has just about the best defensive record in the division doesn't mean he wouldn't be an improvement for us.

I'd have a few concerns about his fitness but he seemed to be involved a fair amount for Leicester last season so he must still have something about him.

He might not be the cheapest option though.

As for Andy Johnson, he might be an interesting option if we can't find a good loanee.

I wouldn't say his scoring record is poor either. Even at Fulham he scored just under 30 goals in under 100 starts. That's not too shabby at that level and in an average side. At Everton he got 22 in 60 odd starts. 1 in 3 is decent enough.

I think that's just in the league. He scored 11 in 15 starts for them in Europe as well.

His last season for Fulham he scored 11 in 33 appearances (including coming off the bench), the majority of them in the Europa League where.

More importantly, if he's fit and at it enough then he'd bring another option to our forwards. He's still not a like for like replacement for Murray which is probably what we'd rather have though as we'd probably be better off using Blackman as the option for running in behind to see if he can cut it.

Can't agree with it, wouldn't fit in with what we've got at the moment. AJ is a short ass, we need a target man to lead the line, we've already got Cox to play off the striker and he's done it very well so far.

An old, short, rarely used striker who won't fit our current system and is likely to be one of the higher earners in our squad.. It's a no from me.

Oh wow I always imagined he was quite tall, was shocked to find he is 5'7, that makes him and inch shorter than me!

Recent tweet from Charles Watts

Millwall interested in Shaun Cummings says @accordingtoaldo. #readingfc certainly top heavy in terms of right backs.

Maynard clearly has talent, but he hasn't translated that into performances for a while (partly due to injuries). If we're confident we can sort things out for him then he could be an excellent signing, but there's every chance he's lost a yard of pace or just can't click.

Sounds like he'd be a perfect fit then given recent transfers...

Maynard is a funny one. Looked really good at one point but jus hasn't lived up to that potential.

He'd certainly be worth a gamble if we could get him on loan but, like Andy Johnson, he isn't a like for like replacement for Murray which is probably what the squad needs. Maynard would be more of an alternative to Blackman, which wouldn't be a bad thing if he's anywhere near as good as he looked originally.
