That kind of goes without saying really. If they signed for us and didn't turn out to be a success then their career was only going to go downwards!

We've signed plenty that we'd hope were on an upward trajectory that suddenly stalled and then nosedived (Marcus Williams, David Mooney, Manset etc).

We've also signed established players like McAnuff, Leigertwood, Harte, Gunnarsson, Armstrong and Little who've turned out to be successful for us.

Saying that, I'd agree with you on Mackie BF. He doesn't seem to be as effective as he was in his best spell at QPR before the injury. He's useful now to plug a gap but I don't think he's a longer term solution after the loan expires.

Tries hard, closes down well but doesn't beat his man enough on the wing and little end product. No thanks. Will do for the time being though but I'd hope we would be in good position in the summer so we don't have to panic buy and can find a better option for around the same price (£500k mentioned above)

You're in for a huge shock this summer then. Less parachute payments and even more cuts need to be made to balance the already overinflated books. The likes of Mackie, if they are affordable, we will be very grateful of.

I thought the parachute payments were £15m per year for 4 seasons?

From what I can see the payments we get are £15m for the first season, £17m for the second and then a further two payments of £8m per season (that's according to an article on the BBC from 2013).

I think that ^^ is the new deal that came into effect the season after we were releg8ed. For us, the payments only last three seasons and are front loaded so we got the most in our first season back down.

Just wanted to highlight Mackie's recent improvement for us. Up until recently I've had a bit of a mixed view of Mackie. It's clear he's not technically the best player, but his directness and work rate makes him a big threat at this level, a similar mould to Stephen Hunt. Would quite like to see him & Gmac on the wings going forward.

His energy, chasing down no-hope balls or closing down players can be inspirational.

In the 3-0 versus Rotherham he scored a goal and got an assist.

He gained us two points at Ipswich with the only goal

He's doing better than Pog in goals/assists

I'd still agree that despite having some valuable contributions over the last few weeks Mackie's final ball is consistently a bit poor, much like most of this teammates unfortunately! HIs work rate and attitude are great yes, and he offers a different kind of option to McLeary down the right hand side, so I could see the logic behind keeping him but I'd still like to think we'll be able to find someone better for the kind of money he's probably likely to cost us.

He's this squads version of Andy Hughes.

I like him! In the summer when we've lost some big names and we're bringing in nobodies, those currently wanting Mackie to go back to Forest will be crying out for him. He's a player with great energy and determination - the sort we should build a team around, unlike many of the over-paid half-arsed wasters here.
