Would you take relegation to League 1 if it meant Reading reached the FA Cup Final?

I'd take winning the cup and relegation, but not only the final.

Goodness! If people complain about the championship have they ever watched the lower divisions week in and week out?

Losing at Wembley is heartbreaking. Why would you want to take that over the possibility of getting back to the premiership. Relegation will result in a spiral of reduced funds, lower crowds, terrible pitches and a weaker squad. Get real some of those fans. If you are not careful you will be looking forward to away ties in the Johnsons paint trophy.

Think relegation is a real possibility. Reckon we should field a weak side against Bradford and saving our players for the league. After all promotion to the premiership means a cup final every week (Mr. D. Kitson)

Madness to think any fan would swap winning the FA cup for anything. Win that and I'd happily just retire as a fan anyway. Never going to lift the prem trophy or either of the euro cups - little us picking up the third most coveted prize in football? Stick it in the bag, dissolve the club and build an IKEA for all I would care.

Yeah but the question was actually just a final appearance, not winning it

Big Foot What would you prefer :?:

FTR - the option is for an FA Cup Final appearance, with no guarantee on the outcome and/or opposition.

Me too!

FA Cup Winners and relegation back to 3rd tier>
Fa Cup losing Finalists and staying in the championship

That said FA Cup losing finalists and relegation to back to the 3rd tier would probably be the worst season I could imagine. I would take a FA cup appearance at Wembley, even a semi (I know not for the purists!) even if it came with relegation back to League One if we guaranteed an immediate return... but from our last stay down there we know it is tough to get out of.

So I wouldn't swap 15 years of progess for a losing appearance at Wembley...but for winning the FA Cup, of course!

I'd be fearful what relegation would do to the club, but if the new owners were prepared to ensure we could make a real big effort to bounce straight back then it may not be a worry. They might decide we were a dead duck and cut off funding leaving us to spiral down. Very hard to recover.

But an FA cup win would be huge, and probably the knock on effects would mean lots of interest the following season and a cup win plus promotion back from Div 1 could be a huge springboard.

I'm not sure Pompey fans would sap their cup final for a place back in the Championship, and I think on balance I'd go for a cup win as top priority.

It's become a bit academic though as relegation is a real outside, almost just mathematical, possibility.

Surely you would have to say staying up in the priority. If the club went down, they would probably have to look at cutbacks on the staffing side. And nobody wants that.

Rather have the day out at Wembley

Rather stay up every single time. I've already seen us win a cup at Wembley and get relegated so can say categorically it certainly isn't worth the over priced food, tickets and no parking that is Wembley.

Bollocks to that.

I'd turf the whole lot out for Wembley glory and wouldn't think twice about it.

Not sure I'd want the Swind*n a division above us, were they to get promoted.

We'd only be one relegation away from playing Oxford again though.
