Would you take relegation to League 1 if it meant Reading reached the FA Cup Final?

Big Foot I'm not even talking cup final appearance - I'd take relegation if it guaranteed a semi final appearance.

So beating a League 1 side is worth going down
and spending at least a season (maybe forever)
in League 1 or worse.

Madness

If we can beat ONE League One side, who's to say we can't beat ALL the League One sides :?: :!:

absolutely watertight logic there Snowballers

Found it very hard to choose, and like someone else said, feel a bit guilty for eventually choosing no. Not sure I made the right decision though, and if the question was winning the cup, which I don't think it was despite some comments suggesting otherwise, then that's a different matter.

FA Cup Final is something I've never thought possible, (though I've always dreamt of it), unlike the PL, and playing at Gillingham would be ideal for me, (tend to go to on average a game a season there as it is)but I think people are underestimating the financial implication of relegation. Coming back up within a couple of years would be good, but on average in the FL over the last 20 years we've spent 4 years in a division before going up or down 1994-98, 1998-2002, 2002-2006, 2008-2012, so it wouldn't be that easy to come straight back up, and i'd rather we were in the Championship over League 1 anyway.

Had my dad not died this season then I may have put a different answer though.

bobby1413 Anyone saying League One is better - fair enough that's what you think.

However I can guarantee you that half these people would be the first to start moaning if we were relegated, and all we would hear about is shiiiiit football, how the Championship was better and in fact League One really isn't the golden league you all claim it to be.

+1 to this

I was actually thinking along similar lines whilst reading through the thread!

Seems fair to me, Marty.

Good point... I can accept my mistake. However still can't get why people would take cup final appearance and relegation .

What about an FA Cup final win?

I would take the League Cup Trophy all day long, every day, without a nanosecond's pause, let alone the FA Cup.

In different conditions I'd take a losing finalists and relegation. I just think we could be set back massively by relegation this year and it would be hard to bounce back for the foreseeable.

I'd just laugh in your face if you asked about relegation for a semi-final appearance. Been to Wembley thanks. Twice. Woo, I get to go to Wembley and lose (again). And then I have to watch us clog it up in the lower leagues for x years again, with just the memory of being slightly better losers than normal in the cup. oxf*rd. That.

To be relegated we have to totally implode

Imagine we end up in the bottom 3 and go down.
That would mean we had a TERRIBLE last 13 games, getting 6-10 points.

We are then at Wembley and lose 5-0 or 6-0 in the final.

That could almost DESTROY the club and we could go straight through League 1

You might want to take a look at the original question.

My point is, relegation AND a bad defeat at Wembley could be disastrous
in both the short term and the long term.

Relegation and WINNING the cup, might be OK and we'd have had
our moment in history, some money, and hopefully a bounce-back

Or finishing fourth-bottom, getting slaughtered in the FA Cup Final
against a top premiership side, THAT would be OK, because we'd've
been there, and yet managed to stay up, could look forward to a
better Championship run next season.
