Nope. There are no hard and fast rules as to what is a 'better achievement', that is a purely subjective thing.

This is Liverpool football club we're talking about 4fs.

It'd be like Man U thinking they've done well to finish 4th

Yep - we're talking about a team who hasn't won the league in a quarter of a century.

Hey Kes, which is the better achievement - Bradford making the FA cup quarter-final or Man Utd making the semi-final?

If Bradford had made the final the previous year you'd maybe not consider the QF quite so good

If you're a bit simple, sure.

Its all relative to experience shirley.

Say you found out that your ex wasn't banging Captain Parachutes but was actually only banging a Corporal. Would take the shine of a bit

Hey Ouroboros. I see what you're trying to get at but this isn't the same scenario as with Liverpool.

2nd has always been a better achievement than 4th, especially as we're talking about the same team, Liverpool.

There's a difference between clubs and teams IMO. People talk about Fergie building a number of different teams over his time at Utd, even though the club stayed the same.

Whilst it's the same club, it's a different team with Suarez leaving and Sturridge getting injured. As you yourself have said, it's pretty poor of Liverpool to rely on two players so heavily, but that's up to them. They have not replaced those players with players of equal or better quality, so you can clearly see the argument how fourth for this team is better than second for their previous team.

No I can't. You can't say 4th is better than 2nd just because Liverpool didn't do the business in the transfer window.

Same club, not the same team.

Yeah alright you can blame them for not spending the Suarez money well enough and not having sufficient cover for Sturridge, it's hardly deniable, but it was always going to be difficult to adjust to losing a big player. I think it's fair to re-evaluate expectations in that context.

It's arguable which the better achievement is/ would be, but it's not as simple as "2nd is higher than 4th, so...."

Oh it is. The only people that make these types of excuses are Liverpool fans. I think I've weeded a few more out here.

I don't expect us to have conversations about Reading or Chelsea that escape the irredeemably tribal, but I would have thought you'd could manage it with a third club that neither of us care about.

Apparently not.

But Kes has more posts on this topic than any other poster-not sure why but he clearly does care a lot about the mighty reds.
Probably some kind of deep inferiority complex but even so, most strange.

Brendan clearly didn't dig deep enough into the big bumper book of tactics today. I have no axe to grind against Liverpool, but I can't help but love how BR is being revealed for the charlatan he is. I suppose he'll talk about how they controlled the game, big impressive play, expressive....yawn.

A charlatan? That's a good one, I think you worry a little too much.

Plenty of gullible folk out there tho' obviously.

In all honesty, you don't stay in a Liverpool type job for as long as he has without having something a little bit more than being a "charlatan" about you.

BR is all PR bulls*** and no actual results. He has won nothing except a play-off final against Reading (and the mighty Walsall can boast that great achievement). You won't win the FA Cup, because BR has proven how brilliant he is at choking in Cup competitions. I can't see you making the top four, but I could be wrong. However, for a team that finished 2nd last year, anything lower than that is a step backwards. Liverpool have had many fine managers....imagine what Rafa would achieve with the current squad....but BR is not one and never will be.

Edited - He has really just said I asked the players to ensure we were in the hat for the S/Finals??!!
Even Arsene can see that is a bulls*** excuse.

Not many managers of his age or experience have won anything much.
He may be a bit over-enthusiastic about his players and (like Pardew) everything in life seems to be fantastic ,terrific or wonderful but I , as do most Liverpool fans, quite like his quiet and calm manner.
I don't like managers who poke another team's assistant manager in the eye (Mourinho) or who try to pick a fight with an opposition player (Pardew) or never ever see any misdemeanours conducted by their players (Fergie, Wenger etc.)-incidentally for his honesty I do like Van Gaal.

I doubt if Brendan will lose too much sleep worrying about what a sad poster on another club's website thinks of him.
He probably wakes up in the morning and after deciding that it is going to be a marvellous and fantastic day looks in the mirror and thinks about what a marvellous and terrific job his dentist has done on his teeth.

I think he's a total bellend, but that's pretty mental.

Taking Liverpool to 2nd after several years outside Champions League football means he's not achieved anything and not equaling or bettering that is a failure? He's no wonder-manager, but he's doing a pretty good job there. He did an excellent job at Swansea, started Ok at Watford and cocked up with us. He's hardly a charlatan.

Seems I am wrong and BR is the messiah after all. We shall see. If he starts picking up a few trophies, I'll happily eat my words. I personally don't think it will happen because he is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is.
